G1 – 1600m – Turf

Bathrat Leon

Japanese-trained G2 winner on dirt at the Dubai World Cup meeting made a successful switch back to turf when fourth in G1 Sussex Stakes over 1600m. Needs to lead and might find a few of these will be finishing faster in the final 200m.

Coroebus

Beat Native Trail in impressive fashion when landing the G1 2000 Guineas over 1600m. Less brilliance on display when scrambling home in the G1 St James’s Palace Stakes (1594m) but the race was not run to suit. If they go fast here, his turn of foot could be crucial.

Djo Francais

Posted career-best effort when winning G3 over 1600m on the round course at Chantilly. First try at G1 level and first attempt on a straight track, so one of the less-likely winners.

Erevann

Three wins from three starts – all at 1600m – and was better than the winning distance suggested when scoring at G3 level last time out. First try over a straight track and on paper he needs to find 10lb of improvement but a bold bid is not out of the question.

Inspiral

Champion two-year-old filly in Europe in 2021 and made up for lost time when posting easy success in G1 (3yo fillies only) Coronation Stakes on return to action this year. Race may have come too quickly after that when losing her unbeaten record behind Prosperous Voyage in G1 (fillies and mares only) over 1600m.

Light Infantry

Showed a liking for Deauville’s straight track when second to Tenebrism in G1 over 1400m last month. This requires more but he has only run four times in his life and only modest improvement would make him a candidate to at least be placed.

Order Of Australia

Looked to have rediscovered his best form when winning the same G2 over 1400m used by a previous winner of this race, Romanised, as a trial. But disappointing when seventh in G1 Sussex Stakes (1600m) since then.

Prosperous Voyage

Second behind Cachet in the G1 1000 Guineas over 1600m and then ran as if need of the race when only tenth behind Inspiral at Ascot. She posted a personal best back over the straight 1600m at Newmarket (July Course) in the G1 Falmouth Stakes, comprehensively reversing the form with Inspiral. Dangerous to underestimate her.

State Of Rest

Remarkable colt who has won G1s in US, Australia, France and the UK, mostly at or around 2000m. The drop back to 1600m poses a question but he is not short of speed.
