2500m – Turf

Auenwolf

Just failed in his hat-trick bid when splitting Srifanelogreen and Pjedro in a desperately tight finish over 2400m last time, a race which could be a key bit of form. Remarkably the eight-year-old had been winless since September 2019 before his current patch of good form.

Baden Rocks

Won three starts ago over the marathon trip of 3400m but showed this distance is also to his liking when finishing second over 2400m last month. That was his first start since January and he can be expected to strip fitter here.

Belgian Prince

Up 7lb for a win over 3000m three starts ago but is used to carrying big weights in handicaps and connections have supplemented so he is taken to be in good form.

Breath Of Fire

Has been running well off low weights in Class 1 handicaps and although he could only finish seventh when returning to this level on his most recent start, this may be more his grade.

Calaconta

Two wins from her last five starts suggest she is in decent form. Performance can be rather a case of all or nothing, so she doesn’t have too many placed efforts to go with the successes.

Checkpoint Charlie

You have to go back to 2018 for the last time he won more than once in a calendar year, and it could be that the 7lb rise he received for his success back in February. Second start for new trainer.

Electron Libre

Veteran was put up to his highest mark for two years when winning in March and has only dropped one pound for five subsequent defeats. Versatile as regards trip and remains competitive in the grade.

Mykiss

Has dropped a long way down the ratings from his Listed-winning days and the victory two starts ago was in a claiming race. Remains to be seen if he has fallen to a handicap mark from which he can now be competitive.

Nobody’s

Has rattled off a hat-trick in the French provinces which means he’s now much higher in the handicap than he was two months ago, which will make this very tough.

Not So Silly

Moved to current connections after finishing fourth in a claiming race two starts ago over 2000m. First try at 2400m did not entirely convince he will appreciate this sort of stamina test.

Pjedro

Beaten a neck in a Class 2 handicap over 2400m last time. Not disgraced behind Santa Zoo in a hot race on Prix du Jockey Club day.

Santa Zoo

Has the highest rating of her career after two wins at 2400m, while latest effort can be partly excused on account of being drawn very wide.

Sasakia

Well-bred Godolphin filly who has been brought along quietly away from the major Parisian tracks. She is two from three at or around 2400m.

Scenariste

Has been in reasonable form since switching stables and might be worth noting that she is being sent the length of the country by her southern-based trainer.

Smile Makers

Been running well in conditions races and now makes his belated debut in handicap company. Intriguing addition to the field.

Thunderspeed

No wins this year but only one finish out of the first four in six starts suggests he’s waited to go close.
