1000m – Turf
1 | Band Practice | On upward curve last year and landed hat-trick with Listed win at Chantilly. Forgiven heavy defeat at Breeders’ Cup and an interesting runner. |
2 | Spartan Fighter | Sprint bred and promising in 2019 until failed to cope with step up in class. Possibly not suited by soft ground and could bounce back. |
3 | Golden Dragon | Did well last year, finishing with a close 5th in G3 at Newmarket. Handicap mark demands improvement. Not ruled out. |
4 | Show Me Show Me | Ran well on occasions, including when good 3rd in G3 at Goodwood at 25-1 but not gone on from that. No more than adequate run in G3 this month. |
5 | Maystar | Productive first season, winning at up to 1400m. Narrowly beaten in Listed race at Chantilly in March. Shorter trip may not be ideal but fair chance. |
6 | Will To Win | All four wins over 1200m on all-weather. Improving but not certain to appreciate shorter trip. Reasonable chance. |
7 | Art Power | Dominant performances at York last year and Newcastle this month. Clearly useful. May prove best at 1200m. Good chance. |
8 | Classy Moon | £220,000 2yo ran respectably at G2 level. Not run since July and level of ability still unclear. |
9 | Keep Busy | Was busy with 11 runs last year and performed creditably. Struggled with step up in class on two runs this month and may find this hard. |
10 | Rayong | Midfield in 2019 Windsor Castle Stakes and balance of form suggests he will struggle to win off current handicap mark. |
11 | George Cornelius | Showed promise in Ireland last year but flopped when odds-on in modest event at Beverley eight days ago. On that evidence, has little chance. |
12 | Lambeth Walk | Struck twice over 1000m early last season before proving not up to Group level. Likely to find this tough. |
13 | Flippa The Strippa | Fair effort to be 8th in 2019 Queen Mary Stakes, behind Mighty Spirit. So far not up to winning at Group level and this offers a better chance. |
14 | Dylan De Vega | Failed to progress after early promise. Needs to have thrived during eight month break to be a serious contender. |
15 | Illusionist | Bought cheaply by Grant Tuer after disappointing runs. An unlikely candidate for success. |
16 | Mighty Spirit | A solid, consistent performer over this trip on range of going. 6th in G2 Queen Mary Stakes here last year. Well handicapped if can defy absence. |
17 | Electric Ladyland | Busy first season. All four wins over 1000m and consistent. Won at similar level on return. Probably needs more to win this. |
18 | Never Dark | Bred to sprint. All five runs on all-weather and won when dropped to 1000m this month. Should progress and good chance. |
19 | Sir Oliver | Took long time to win – did so this February after gelded and dropped to 1000m but well behind Triple Spear 11 days ago. A tough task. |
20 | Triple Spear | Fair record last year and winning return over 1000m at Haydock 11 days ago but this a big step up in class. |
21 | City Walk | Too keen and faded badly in a minor event at Kempton this month. Will need a big step up. |
22 | Dancin Inthestreet | Form over further. Had troubled passage and stayed on well into 3rd over 1000m this month. Course should suit better than Haydock. Good chance. |
