The Hong Kong Jockey Club bought four eye-catching colts out of the recent 2023 Goffs Orby Sale in Ireland for a total outlay of €1.191 million (approx. HK$10.205 million).
The Club’s highest-priced purchase was Lot 400, secured for €500,000. The bay colt’s full sister is the Group 1-placed Quattroelle, a Group 2 and Group 3 winner on turf in the United States of America, while his sire Mehmas has a solid record in Hong Kong from only four runners – topped by Circuit Stellar and Taj Dragon’s combined six wins.
Lot 19 was the first to fall the Club’s way for €280,000, a bay colt by Acclamation – sire of Hong Kong International Sale graduate Romantic Warrior, who boasts three Group 1s, BMW Hong Kong Derby (2000m) glory and HK$84.36 million in earnings.
Lot 201 was the second purchase for €240,000, an attractive brown colt by No Nay Never – sire of Group 1 winners in Great Britain, Australia and the United States of America.
Lot 427 wrapped up the Club’s buying at €170,000 with a bay colt by Invincible Spirit. The youngster is a half sibling to the Group 3-winning Chemical Charge.
