1200m – Turf
| 1 | Alramz | One of three runners from the powerful Mike de Kock yard and is one of the better handicapped runners in this event. Has run well in strong fields but is still only a one-time winner. He will sport blinkers for the first time and has a top jockey in Bernard Fayd’Herbe. |
| 2 | Putontheredlight | The first of three runners from the yard of Champion Trainer Sean Tarry, he was a top juvenile but has not produced much as a three-year-old. Coming back in distance and the addition of blinkers might help his cause. |
| 3 | Pure State | Another Tarry runner, he won the Ready To Run Stakes over 1400m under a tactical ride from Piere Strydom. The pair re-unite after another jockey rode him in the G1 Cape Guineas. Might be better over a bit further but could place. |
| 4 | Invidia | Finished a 1.25L 3rd behind Pure State in the Ready To Run Stakes but got caught wide in a slow-run race and battled to quicken. The blinkers come off after a disappointing 1000m sprint last time and with Aldo Domeyer up, must have a winning chance. |
| 5 | Three Two Charlie | Consistent sprinter who is at his best over this 1200m. Placed in the Cape Nursery and continued to improve after gelding. Came out to win the Listed Sophomore Sprint over this course and distance and with Greg Cheyne up, could run into the places. |
| 6 | Cartel Captain | A decent juvenile who looked just below the best in the country but was gelded at the end of the season. Has had two runs this season and last time won the Need For Speed Sprint (1000m) fitted with blinkers. Top trainer in Dennis Drier and has a winning chance. |
| 7 | Vaseem | Another Mike de Kock runner who has only raced four times and has room for improvement. He is not well handicapped but he is very well bred and seems to be at his best over this distance at this stage of his career. This will be his third run after a layoff. |
| 8 | General Franco | A son of Frankel from the Justin Snaith yard, he had the mark of a champion when winning on debut by 3.5 lengths. Unfortunately, he has failed to win a race since then and is starting to look rather moderate. However, stable jockey Richard Fourie has been given the ride. |
| 9 | Battleoftrafalgar | Third runner from the Mike de Kock yard who has a big reputation but has not delivered much after running 3rd in the G2 SA Nursery on debut. Failed to show on his Cape Town debut and will need to improve to be any sort of threat. |
| 10 | Ring Of Fire | From the in-form Paul Peter stable but seems to be at his best over 1000m. He is a two-time winner but has already raced 13 times, more than any other runners in the race. Has to be regarded as an optimistic entry. |
| 11 | Stopalltheclocks | Another runner from the Justin Snaith yard and has run well over this distance. In his favour is that Snaith has engaged former Champion Jockey S’manga Khumalo but he is badly under sufferance based on merit ratings and a place would be a good effort from this gelding. |
| 12 | Ground Control | This gelding won at the second time of asking but there is nothing in his recent form that indicates he has a chance to run well in this event. He is considered the biggest outsider in the field and it would come as major shock if he even runs a place. |
| 13 | Mr Cobbs | The second runner from the Candice Bass-Robinson yard who is a consistent sort who is rarely out of the first three. Raced on well over 1000m last time and should enjoy the extra 200m but looks outclassed although he could run into the placings. |
| 14 | Sarah | This Paul Peter-trained filly is the current favourite and viewed by many as hard to beat. She is the best handicapped runner who has won six of her 11 starts. Has a top jockey in current log leader Warren Kennedy but the concern is that she has yet to beat the colts. |
| 15 | Wisteria Walk | A very nice filly who has won both of her starts over 1200m. Has been running over further and placed in two fillies’ features. She might enjoy the return to this distance but she has not run against the colts as yet. However, she has the ability to cause an upset. |
| 16 | What You Are | Well-travelled filly who has raced in every major centre around the country. She won the Listed Devon Air Stakes and was runner-up in the G2 Golden Slipper, both over 1400m at Greyville. Has only raced once as a three-year-old but could be upset material. |
| 17 | Spring Break | Another runner from the Sean Tarry yard and has UK jockey Ryan Moore in the irons. A lightly raced filly who placed a 0.3L 2nd behind African Warrior in the G2 Umkhomazi Stakes (1200m) against the colts. A major contender for top honours. |
| 18 | Mirage | A useful filly from the Vaughan Marshall stable but has yet to prove she can compete at this level. Won on debut but has shown little as a three-year-old. Will be fitted with blinkers again after having run a 1.25L 2nd in them two runs back. |
| 19 | Calypso Beat | Made a winning comeback after a break last time over this course and distance and she is one of the more fancied runners for this race. A lot of that probably has to do with the fact Anton Marcus will be in the irons than based on her form. Place chance. |
| 20 | Somewhere In Time | Third runner from the Justin Snaith yard but she will need to improve markedly to even run a place in this race. She has been running against her own sex and has not featured when tried against stronger opposition. |
