G1 – 1000m – Turf

Kasimir Leading sprinter in the country currently and is the runner they all have to beat. He has a great record over the course and distance but is probably a touch better over 1200m. Had a decent enough warm-up when a two-length fourth behind Chimichuri Run. Richard Fourie rides for Justin Snaith.
Chimichuri Run Sean Tarry-trained colt who won a good race in his warm-up run but can expect a bigger challenge from Kasimir. Was fitted with blinkers last time and Tarry has kept them on following the victory. Gavin Lerena rides again.
Pacific Trader A 1000m specialist who will appreciate very fast ground. Split Chimichuri Run and Bold Respect last time and will have benefitted from that run. Corne Orffer rides for Brett Crawford. A definite contender.
Bold Respect Another Brett Crawford sprinter who is rarely far off the winning group. He has won over 1000m but is definitely better over 1200m and will be running on late. Could win but more likely to be a place contender.
Pleasedtomeetyou A decent sprinter who is at his best over this distance. He does look held on his last couple of races. He looks unlikely to win, even with Bernard Fayd’Herbe up.
Russet Air Candice Bass-Robinson’s charge has come back well from a layoff and has notched up two wins and a third in his last three runs. This four-year-old gelding is not without a chance but will have to produce something special to beat the likes of Kasimir. Place chance.
Elusive Trader Caused an upset when winning the Listed Southeaster Sprint over 1100m last time but this three-time winner will need a lot of luck to win this as he is badly under sufferance with the leading contenders.
Machiavelli Second runner from the Candice Bass-Robinson stable and even with Piere Strydom up, the four-year-old gelding is so badly out at the weights it would take a miracle for him to feature in this event.
Run Fox Run The most interesting runner in and joint favourite with Kasimir, this Australian-bred filly is unbeaten in five starts and has won all of them with ease. However, this is the first time she will be taking on the colts so only the race will tell. Anton Marcus rides for Brett Crawford. Big runner.
Princess Rebel Nice mare from Port Elizabeth who ran a 2.25-length second behind Run Fox Run last time so even though she is 2 lb better off, looks unlikely to win.
Celestial Storm Decent filly, but ran third behind Run Fox Run last time and looks to have little chance of being a contender in a race of this nature. Optimistic entry.
