3yo+ Handicap – Form Comments
| 1 | Vintager | Whipped his rivals in a handicap on the July Course here at Newmarket last summer. Was then gelded and moved stables but has disappointed in just two starts since, first at Meydan and then in a handicap here last month. |
| 2 | First Sitting | A G3 winner at Deauville in 2017, and all starts last season were above this handicap company, and all over a bit further than this. A winner in Listed company at Goodwood early last season, and generally ran consistently on his other starts. Usually races prominently. |
| 3 | Aquarium | From a stable who have won this race before, this five-times winner had an unrewarding spell in Meydan earlier this year but has run very well on his last two starts, notably when second of 11 in a classy Epsom handicap last month. |
| 4 | Max Zorin | Formerly well regarded by his trainer, currently enjoying a fantastic season. He is a bit of a mystery now as he is having his first start for 722 days, last seen when leading for most of the way in a Listed race at Chester in May 2017, briefly threatening to land a surprise win. |
| 5 | Exec Chef | Gained three straight wins after moving to this stable. Coming from off the speed as usual he also made an excellent start to 2019 when a close second of 16 in a 1600m Doncaster handicap in March. An unfavourably high gate didn’t help at Newbury last time but it was still disappointing. |
| 6 | Ibraz | There are not many races over this distance but the lightly raced Ibraz was victorious in a handicap over this trip on fast ground at Sandown last June. Could never make any impact at Newbury on his only 2019 start, slow ground probably not helping. |
| 7 | Elector | From a stable that have won this race multiple times. He hasn’t won since his debut but has run up against some very good horses in handicaps and it is positive that his trainer thought him good enough to compete in a G2 at Royal Ascot last year. Gelded since his last run. |
| 8 | Al Muffrih | Connections were once dreaming of the Epsom Derby for him and he beat a big field in a 2000m Newbury maiden about a year ago. However things didn’t work out and he was a disappointing favourite on his only other 2018 start. He remains interesting. |
| 9 | Power Of Darkness | His trainer is convinced that he is better than his current handicap mark. Twice a winner last year, after which he had a wind operation and was gelded. Looked unlucky not to win on his 2019 return – over 1600m here, having to switch around horses at a crucial time. Best on good or fast ground. |
| 10 | Jazeel | Having his first start for this stable, he comes here on a career-high handicap rating, but he is proven at this track and over this specialist distance having fought hard to beat 18 rivals here last September. Good or fast ground is preferable. |
