G2 – 2400m – Turf

Communique Doesn’t do much work at home but is kept very busy on the track, winning five of his 14 starts in 2018, including when in and out of the lead from the start to land a Listed event over this course and distance. However this is more challenging and he faded from the front on his 2019 debut.
Defoe Started hot favourite for this last year, and, though briefly looking in trouble, was well on top at the end. Didn’t manage a win when tried in G1 company on four subsequent occasions, though a close second once. Made a respectable 2019 start when fourth at Newbury last month. Good or slow ground ideal.
Mildenberger Twice finished close up to subsequent G1 superstar Roaring Lion earlier in his career. Had been off with a fractured knee before reappearing in an Epsom handicap last month, missing the break but making some late progress. His trainer thinks this longer distance will be helpful.
Red Verdon Briefly looked like landing a surprise win in this last year, after kicking clear about 400m out, eventually grabbed by Defoe. Gelded after competing at Sha Tin in December, he surged late to win a conditions’ event at Doncaster in March. A strong effort considering he had raced too freely early on.
Young Rascal Wants good – or preferably slow – ground to show off his considerable talents. Lightly campaigned but three times a G3 winner, including at this distance, but he was rather disappointing on his 2019 return –  failing to quicken for pressure in that Newbury G3.
Coronet A very high class operator – effective on this track, twice a G2 winner and with plenty of excellent G1 efforts over this distance. Adaptable groundwise and tactically and proven capable of a big show after a break. A serious candidate for this G2 prize.
Maid Up Proved a revelation last year, starting on a lowish handicap mark before winning four races, the last being a 2800m G3 at Goodwood. The quality of this opposition  will make this difficult but the stable remain in tremendous form. A ferocious pace would help.
