G2 – 1600m – Turf

1

Pier Pressure

Withdrawn

2

Aprilia

Has the gate speed to put herself in a forward position. Ran her best race at last start when stepped up to 1600m for the first time and finished second, beaten 1.5L, in the G2 Edward Manifold Stakes. Sure to be improved and worth following.

3

Carina Queen

Has raced only three times for two wins. Was okay winning last start at Sandown over 1400m. The step up to 1600m is ideal but this is a tough assignment.

4

Captain Amelia

Comes into calculations after racing for the first time over 1600m when finishing fifth, beaten 2.25L, in the G1 Flight Stakes last month. Drew wide and began awkwardly. Should be improved enough to command plenty of respect.

5

Oceans of Energy

Looked good after winning her first two starts and then finished seventh at her next. Last two have been okay and she should handle the increase in distance but needs improvement to be a winning chance.

6

Nodachi

Has slowly been building up to the mile and wasn’t disgraced at last start when raced handy to finish fourth, beaten 3L, in the G2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m). Only needs a little bit of improvement to test her rivals.

7

Grinzinger Belle

Drops back from 2000m for this after finishing 5.8L seventh in the G3 Ethereal Stakes at Caulfield last week. Was okay in a much easier race at Moonee Valley the start before at 1600m. Will need luck to be prominent.

8

Skybird

Interesting runner who has raced twice for two wins at 1200m and 1300m and recorded the fastest last 600m in both of them as she stormed home. Couldn’t have been more impressive winning last start by 2.5L. Creates a lot of interest.

9

Poifect

Had no luck at most recent start in the G2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) when she jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Got back too far and finished last. Is worth another chance.

10

Broadcaster

Still a maiden after four attempts, but has run three thirds. Has been getting back in her runs and getting home well which suggests 1600m for the first time is ideal. Her grandam produced champion stayer Mummify.

11

Quickster

Has raced only once when she got home hard to finish second, beaten 0.2L, over 1200m on the Pakenham Park Synthetic earlier this month. She is a full sister to dual G1 winner Mr Quickie and must be respected but this a big assignment second-up.
