3991m – Turf

1 Verdana Blue Not good on soft ground but a classy operator on decent ground over hurdles and also ran well in a G3 here last year. Good chance if she stays this trip.
2 Summer Moon A late developing type but progressed into a very smart stayer last year, including a close 3rd in a prestigious 3600m Newmarket handicap. Chances.
3 Fair Mountain More familiar over trips around 2000m when competing in Germany. Did consistently well in four hurdling starts in the UK but absent for nearly two years.
4 Dubawi Fifty Ran a terrific race from the front in this two years ago, only narrowly beaten, and he can compete off a similar handicap mark here.
5 Diocletian Unproven at this trip but that applies to most of his rivals. Closed down 2019 with a smooth Chester win but now on a challenging handicap mark.
6 Carntop Has won three modest races over obstacles but well beaten on his last start. Having his first start since a wind operation.
7 Yaa Salaam Has come close to winning over obstacles in three of his last four starts. But they were weak affairs and his German wins on the Flat were over much shorter than this.
8 Cliffs of Dooneen Jockey Rossa Ryan is making quite a name for himself. This gelding might do better now that he is back on turf, once winning at The Curragh over 3200m.
9 Mancini The stable that won this in 2019. He is a big horse who likes to lead, making quite an encouraging start to 2020 when 4th at Haydock.
10 Moon King Up in trip here but won five handicaps in succession last season, a rare achievement. Yet another win on his 2020 return, at Haydock this month. Likes slow ground.
11 Blue Laureate Has a low winning strike-rate but has some narrow misses including this month when only just beaten by Moon King at Haydock.  Chances if he stays and the stable won this in 2019.
12 Land Of Oz Had a fantastic time last season, winning six times including a victory over 3600m at Newmarket, an encouragement for this assignment.
13 Rochester House On his Ascot debut.  He is three times a winner but has also run some shockingly bad races. Ran decently on his return this month but will need to settle at this trip.
14 Coeur de Lion Visored for the first time, he was 6th in this in 2018 and 5th last year. He could get into the money if things go his way.
15 Charlie D A bargain purchase who has won seven times and rarely runs a bad race.  This company may be too strong and this trip too far.
16 Pianissimo His three wins have all come on an all-weather surface but he did run 2nd in a novices’ event at Ascot last October. Frankie Dettori is booked.
17 Quloob Won three straight races in 2017, up to 2400m. Has also raced over a similar trip to this over hurdles, but this faster Flat-race pace needs more stamina.
18 Smart Champion A lightly raced gelding who has given the impression that he should last this trip. In good form early this year, coming late to win at Newcastle.
19 Ashutor Twice won on the Flat when trained in France at up to 2300m. Also won a maiden hurdle this year, a weak affair.
20 San Benedeto A ten times winner over obstacles, competing at a higher level than most of the others here who have been jumping. He should stay this distance.
