1600m – Turf

1

King’s Pavilion

The latest of his seven career wins came over 1400m at Ascot, always up with the pace on the soft ground there. Slow ground definitely suits best.

2

Aces

Bred for speed and much more familiar over shorter trips. However he did cling on to victory over nearly this far around Chester’s tight bends last year.

3

Montatham

A lightly raced gelding who looked gradually progressive last year. Finished well when 4th over this distance on the Kempton all-weather last time.

4

Ambassadorial

Came very close to winning a handicap over this distance on the dirt at Meydan, leading early. His 0-7 turf record is a bit of a worry.

5

Exec Chef

Best on slow ground he ran up a three-race winning sequence in 2018, but hasn’t managed a win in 12 starts since.  Ran well on his only Newmarket start.

6

Alfred Boucher

Likes to lead early, tactics that saw him gain three straight wins last summer. Best chance if he can dominate here.

7

Loch Ness Monster

Only win came in a maiden over a sprint trip but has come close to victory in several starts though sometimes races too freely. Good or slow ground ideal.

8

Model Guest

A bit worrying that he usually starts at long odds and is yet to win. Best runs in 2019 seem to have been on a slow surface including when 3rd at Ascot.

9

Black Lotus

Has a good finishing kick but her four career wins have all come over around 2000m so she’ll want a strong pace at this trip. Consistent.

10

Jalaad

A lightly-raced gelding who has been beaten three times when favourite. However he fought hard to win a Newcastle all-weather handicap last September.

11

Nonios

A veteran now and probably best on synthetic surfaces with a 0-10 record on turf. Needs to be delivered late, tactics that saw him win at Lingfield this year.

12

Pinnata

His two turf wins have both come at this distance. Got a clever front-running ride to win over this trip on the Kempton all-weather in February.
