1200m – Turf
1200m – Turf
1 | Moyassar | His only two-year-old win came on an all-weather surface but he ran some really good turf races – including three narrow defeats. Although only eighth over this course and distance on his 2019 return last month, he did show good acceleration after a slow start before tiring. |
2 | Concierge | Gained four two-year-old wins, most significantly when an ambitious trip to Doha, Qatar, paid off when he surged from the back to win a valuable 1400m prize. Not disgraced but didn’t quite have the speed to make a big impact in a valuable 1201m all-weather event at Lingfield. |
3 | Beat Le Bon | Generally progressive, though only had to beat two rivals for his sole win – over 1201m on the Lingfield all-weather track in March. Faded right out in the closing stages of a 1400m Newbury handicap last month – perhaps soft ground was to blame. |
4 | He’zanarab | A smart two-year-old who won two of his four starts. However, even though he started at long odds for his three-year-old debut in a slow ground 1400m G3 at Newbury, it still counts as a flop. He missed the break, raced freely and faded right out at the end. |
5 | Almufti | Ran third in a 1400m G3 at Newbury last season, the slow ground not helping according to his trainer. Sweating, but he ran a decent third over 1400m here on his return last month. Plans to move up to 1600m have altered and he moves down to 1200m instead. |
6 | Don Armado | His two wins – from 13 starts – came in fast ground 1200m handicaps last summer. Has continued to be busy since and probably would have finished closer than seventh with a better passage in a handicap here last month. |
7 | Jackstar | A winner over 1000m here on his debut last year, then absent with a knee injury until a well-backed winner over 1433m on the Wolverhampton sand this March. Raced much too freely when last of eight in a 1600m G3 here last month. Down in distance and class this time. |
8 | Princes Des Sables | Starts her second season now but had an excellent two-year-old career – always improving – and not many youngsters win four successive handicaps, defying a higher handicap mark each time. Jockey Shane Grey continues his association. |
9 | Intuitive | Landed a gamble at long odds when he won over this distance on Kempton’s all-weather surface on his second two-year-old start. Maintained the improvement with another Kempton win – under a penalty – last month. Pretty fast considering he’s bred for further, and he should handle grass fine. |
10 | James Watt | Showed early promise, winning his first two starts last year. Gelded prior to his three-year-old return and he ran a fair third of seven without being able to find a finishing kick in that Beverley handicap. Returns to a shorter trip which looks helpful. |
11 | Cool Reflection | Ran well in three of his five two-year-old starts. He won on the final occasion with a front-running defeat of nine rivals in a Novices’ event at Kempton last October. The form of that race wasn’t really enhanced after but a return to grass is not a worry. |
12 | Louis Treize | Couldn’t make a serious impact in a valuable event at Doncaster on his final start of 2018. However he had previously shown plenty of pace and a winning spirit when drawing clear of 11 rivals over this distance on Newcastle’s all-weather surface. |
13 | Mawakib | All four starts have been on an all-weather surface though his pedigree does not rule out a successful turf career. All starts at this distance so far, including a Wolverhampton win and a strong-finishing fourth after a difficult passage at Kempton last month. |
