Hong Kong representative Chad Schofield was winless at the end of day one at the World All-Star Jockeys at Sapporo Racecourse, Japan today (Saturday, 25 August) but the competition debutant is still in with a chance of success.

Schofield had accrued 13 points and sat in joint ninth place at the half-way stage in the two-day challenge, 25 points behind the competition’s leader Yutaka Take (38 points). However, with a maximum of 60 points still up for grabs on Sunday (26 August), Schofield will be hoping to capitalise aboard his second day mounts, Evolution and Spikenard.

Schofield was out of the frame (finishing 12th) in the first leg but nicked 12 points in leg two when partnering Admire Eikan to finish fourth. Former Hong Kong champion jockey Joao Moreira, representing Brazil this time, ranked last after two legs with five points.

The World All-Star Jockeys series also features a team component. Team JRA comfortably led at the mid-point with 143 points to the 86 points of Team World All-Star.
