1600m – Turf

Alma Dorado

5-year-old brought consistently good results on turf and dirt until reaching the 2-win level. Has now posted 9-13 over dirt and is returning to turf. Has not raced since mid-November. Condition key on raceday, but may not be competitive amid this lineup. Work looks ample.

Ex Cetera

Godolphin English-bred colt returned with 28-kg weight gain to win over Kyoto 1400m in late April. Was first race after nearly a year following maiden win at mile over Hanshin 1600m. Both wins under Christophe Lemaire. Ritto-based and first time at Tokyo, but has decent results racing to left.

Gempachi Iron

Has had no success in last 26 starts, ranging in distance from 1000m to 1700m. Had three best 4th-place finishes last year, two of which at Tokyo. Nice acceleration in work. With a bit of luck could fill out a trio.

La Quarante Six

Has been trying to clinch third win over last 23 starts, nearly all over mile, some at Tokyo. Rarely makes board. Footwork decent in morning work, but prospects likely bleak.

Never Gone Out

Six-year-old gelding has only 1 third and 1 other finish on board in 19 starts at this level. Work average. Most likely not a contender.

Show Hide Kira

Has only one finish in the money in last 8 starts, no others on board. All over mile. Chronically misses break. Did finish third in Tokyo mile at this level in late November. Raceday condition key. Nothing showy in work.

Siberian Tiger

12-year-old gelding with 64 starts has failed to make money since October 2019, some 22 starts ago. Distance, venue consistent. Likely not a contender here.

Ten Bagger

Ritto-based, big horse. Last five starts over mile brought no wins, but three thirds. Last won over Tokyo mile, return to venue a plus. Ample work.

Volta Do Mar

Dirt sprinter with minimal successful posted double-digit finishes in last three starts over dirt, including at 1800m at end April. Now being tried at turf mile. General lack of speed. Heavy on feet. Likely not a contender.

Vulcano

Consistently finishing in top three at the mile, primarily at Tokyo. Just won on 23 April and moving up in class. Versatile, with good overall speed. Looking good in work.
