G2 – 1000m – Turf
1 |
Artos |
US raiders have a good record in this and Artos showed a lot of speed to overcome a hot favourite when winning a firm-ground 1100m maiden at Churchill Downs last month. |
2 |
Beautiful Sunshine |
From a stable doing incredibly well with their youngsters and this filly thrashed four rivals on slow ground at Sandown last month. The manner of her win made this an obvious target. |
3 |
Cheerupsleepyjean |
Too fresh early on but still managed to make a winning debut at The Curragh. But the form of that race has not worked out, and she was also soundly beaten next time. |
4 |
Choux |
Bred for further than this but fast enough to outspeed ten rivals in a soft-ground maiden at Thirsk last month. This is a much tougher challenge. |
5 |
Coup de Force |
Faded after leading on her debut, progressing to land a surprise win – showing pace from the gate – to lead all the way at Chepstow. A speedy filly but will probably struggle at this level. |
6 |
Crazyland |
Nicely bred and a successful favourite on her debut, at Windsor with several of those behind her winning since. Then a good third of 13 in Listed company at York. Well worth her place in this. |
7 |
Desert Dreamer |
Her stable doesn’t specialise in first-time out winners but she managed that at Newmarket, and followed up by winning in stronger company over 1200m at the same track. Very smart. |
8 |
Eve Lodge |
Met traffic on her career debut – here – running an encouraging third. Little effort was required for her to follow up with an easy soft-ground victory at Lingfield. |
9 |
Get Ahead |
Well-bred and an expensive yearling purchase, she made her debut over this course and distance, showing enough late speed to win that maiden quite easily. |
10 |
Harmony Rose |
Her trainer thinks she is still improving and she does have the most experience in this field even if she is only a small filly. Beaten last time by 1 length. |
11 |
Illustrating |
Showed decisive acceleration in the last 200m to outclass 12 rivals in a novices’ event at Catterick earlier this month, an impressive career debut. |
12 |
Jazzy Princess |
She ran on late after being outpaced for much of the trip on her sole start, at Beverley last month. Very hard to imagine she can win this. |
13 |
Mas Poder |
Made her debut in a strong York Listed event that has never been won by a first-time starter. Clearly inexperienced but finished nicely into fourth, a highly encouraging career start. |
14 |
Misty Ayr |
Slowly away and then denied a clear passage, but she made good late progress to finish third at Catterick this month. Facing hugely stronger competition this time. |
15 |
Nymphadora |
Built on quite a promising career debut at Newmarket to outspeed 12 rivals in a Listed event at York, responding willingly to her rider’s demands once she had got to the front. |
16 |
Orinoco River |
Started favourite to beat today’s rival Yet in a 1000m Dundalk maiden last month, and, although just missing out to that rival after a tense battle, it was still a very encouraging start. |
17 |
Poppy Petal |
Improved from an encouraging debut second, to lead throughout over this trip on soft ground at Catterick last month – finishing 4.75L clear of her nearest rival. |
18 |
Quick Suzy |
Drops back to 1000m after being caught late on in a G3 at Naas, the distance and soft ground just finding her out. Had previously bossed from the front to win easily at The Curragh. |
19 |
Twilight Gleaming |
Her US stable has a great record in this. She justified the expectations of her trainer when romping to a 7.5L win over this trip at Belmont last month, gliding nicely over the very fast surface. Has reportedly worked impressively before shipping to the UK. |
20 |
Vertiginous |
Failed to justify favouritism on her career debut at Bath this month, but it was still a solid start as she was badly in need of the experience and was keeping on at the end. Still, this looks tough. |
21 |
White Jasmine |
Hollie Doyle’s mount has shown up well on both starts but has not shown enough to have strong claims in this. |
22 |
Yet |
Had to fight hard to beat another newcomer – today’s rival Orinoco River – in a 1000m maiden at Dundalk in May, but the pair were clear of the rest. Clearly smart. |
