Vincent Ho will seek to triumphantly bookend the most successful Hong Kong G1 season of his flourishing career when partnering Glorious Dragon in the Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup (2400m) at Sha Tin on Sunday (23 May).
Already armed with five G1 trophies for the 2020/21 term, victory on Francis Lui’s Glorious Dragon would enable the accomplished horseman to emulate Joao Moreira’s 2014/15 feat of landing six G1 winners in a Hong Kong season.
In recent history, Zac Purton is the only jockey with more sustained success at the highest level, snaring seven of the jurisdiction’s 12 seasonal G1s in 2018/19.
In a display of astonishing excellence, Purton claimed four G1 crowns aboard Beauty Generation (LONGINES Hong Kong Mile, Stewards’ Cup, Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup and the FWD Champions Mile) and the balance on Exultant (LONGINES Hong Kong Vase, Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup and the Standard Chartered Champions & Chater Cup).
Moreira slotted six of the G1 contests in 2014/15 with success on Able Friend (LONGINES Hong Kong Mile, Stewards’ Cup, Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup and the Champions Mile) and Designs On Rome (LONGINES Hong Kong Cup and Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup.)
Ho, 30, has posted five G1 victories so far in 2020/21 – four in partnership with Golden Sixty (LONGINES Hong Kong Mile, Stewards’ Cup, the Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup and the FWD Champions Mile) and the FWD QEII Cup on Japan’s Loves Only You.
