The Hong Kong Jockey Club has purchased two colts out of the recent Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale for a total cost of £380,000 (approx. HK$3.931 million).

The auctioneer’s hammer fell at £325,000 for Lot 165 and it came down in the Club’s favour, proving to be a new September Sale record price, eclipsing the previous high (£275,000) set in 2018.

This free-moving youngster is by Teofilo, the same sire as five-time G1 winner Exultant and is a full-brother to two G3 winners, Guaranteed, winner of the Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown and Gear Up, winner of the Acomb Stakes at York, who is entered to run in Saturday’s G2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket. This colt was bred by Jim Bolger, trainer of 2004 Hong Kong Cup heroine, Alexander Goldrun.

Prior to their record purchase, the Club secured Lot 63 for £55,000, a bay colt by Mastercraftsman, sire of Alpha Centauri, the winner of four G1s as well as The Grey Gatsby, 2014 Prix du Jockey Club winner.

This youngster is a half-brother to Endowing, who finished second in the 2013 Hong Kong Derby to Akeed Mofeed. He then turned the tables on that horse when winning the G2 Jockey Club Cup, defeating an all-star line-up which included Military Attack, California Memory and Dominant. Prior to this, he took the HKG3 Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse, narrowly edging the classy Blazing Speed.
