| Count Octave | Facts and figures suggest that he continually improved last season and was only beaten 5 1/2L in the G1 St Leger over further than this on his final 2017 start. He had to work hard to win a minor all-weather event over 2446m on his 2018 return. He’ll want a strong gallop. |
| Defoe | Highly progressive last season, starting with handicap wins and moving to Listed and G3 success. Smoothly advanced from the back to win a Newbury G3 over this distance on his 2018 return last month. Likes good or slow ground, and the certain favourite. Hard to beat. |
| Khalidi | Came within 1/2L of a G2 success over 2392m at Royal Ascot last year. Has not lived up to that in two starts for his current stable this year, and last of ten in a G1 at Meydan in March, making a forward move from the back before fading. Best on fast ground. |
| Master The World | Ended a long losing run when coming from an impossible position to win a 1600m handicap at Goodwood last August under Ryan Moore. Has run well at Newmarket before but didn’t look entirely happy on this track when a respectable fifth in a G3 here last month. |
| Red Verdon | Has something to find on ratings and also disappointed over this course and distance last September. Well backed when comfortably winning over this distance on the Lingfield all-weather in February but didn’t improve on that back there when tried over 3154m last time. |
