1600m – Turf

1 Symbolization A 1400m all-weather winner on his second and final two-year-old start before spending the winter in Dubai. Made favourite for his return over 1400m here but he just met his match beaten into second by a well-regarded rival. That was still encouraging. Top weight for this handicap debut.
2 Folk Tale He managed a 1200m Newmarket novices’ win last summer, despite racing too keenly. Gelded prior to his 2018 debut he was only ninth of ten in that 1400m Listed handicap which was disappointing considering his stable were going so well at the time.
3 Book Of Dreams Already busy this year, winning his first two starts including a runaway 6L handicap victory- looking to handle the heavy ground at Musselburgh better than his opponents. He found a 20lb rise in the weights just too much when fourth at Ripon most recently.
4 Crownthorpe Two fine efforts this season, taken to Naas, Ireland, for the first and ran a good third of 14 in a 1400m handicap. Up to this distance for the first time at Ripon last month, always travelling well just off the pace and swooping for a cosy win in that handicap. More to come surely, especially on easy ground.
5 Curiosity Twice a winner as a two-year-old including in a minor 1400m event at Ascot. Fancied for a G2 subsequently but excuses for that as ringworm was later discovered. Disappointing again on his final start but he’s been gelded since. Fast ground would be ideal says his trainer.
6 Sam Gold  Showed plenty of promise though without managing a win in three starts last season, tending to do his best work at the end of his races. Latterly he narrowly failed to catch a subsequent winner over 1668m in a maiden event at Nottingham last October.
7 Roulette She made all the running when winning a maiden over 1400m at Goodwood last August without looking entirely happy on the soft ground. Simply not good enough when tried in G2 company here on her final 2017 start. Handicap debut now.
