Broome

The latest of his nine wins came when proving that he stayed this trip with a G2 victory at Meydan. Some disappointments since and he has ground to make up with some of these distinguished rivals.

Coltrane

Despite a difficult trip he was only just beaten by his old rival Trueshan in this race last year. Two terrific Ascot performances in 2023, a rare disappointing effort coming at Doncaster last month.

Kyprios

A formidable stayer, unbeaten in six starts last year – four at G1 level. An infection delayed his return, then not finding his usual gear change when second at The Curragh last month. Could easily bounce back to top form.

Stratum

Fourth at long odds in this last year, never threatening to win. Has had plenty of career wins but this veteran surely won’t be able to live with the pace in the closing battle.

Sweet William

Highly progressive in handicaps earlier in 2023, before being raised to G2 level when only finding mighty stayer Trueshan too strong at Doncaster. Not an easy ride but may still be improving.

Trawlerman

Moved up from high-class handicap performances to prove he belonged at this level when third in this last year. No surprise to see him back here after two easy wins in September. Drying conditions would help.

Trueshan

This magnificent stayer whose ability and courage in the later stages of a race has seen him win 15 of his 25 starts, including this race for the past three years. Bagged a G1 at Longchamp on his latest start. Best on slow ground.

Maxident

A very unlikely winner. Well beaten over a lesser trip and much lower grade in his last three starts.
