| Tasman Bay | Some very good efforts last season with placed efforts in G2 and G3 company. Gelded since and has shown little flair in two 2022 starts. |
| Juan De Montalban | This powerful gelding has won comfortably at Ascot on two of his last three starts. Faces a 5lb rise but trainer thinks York’s galloping track will suit him very well. |
| Amtiyaz | Having his first run for 406 days. Raced over further on all five starts last year, including a surprise Royal Ascot handicap win. Fast ground and a quick pace ideal. |
| Mahrajaan | Must be excuses for a shocking run here, and did much better when only just beaten in a 2400m Newmarket handicap last time. Chance, but a challenging handicap mark. |
| Charging Thunder | Having a busy and rewarding season, including three handicap wins and a good second in a big-field handicap here, and yet another good show at Ascot this month. |
| Dark Jedi | Effective over this trip and further, wanting a strong pace and good or slow ground ideally. Only just beaten on his latest start. |
| Lord Protector | A Sandown handicap winner in June, he needs to be held up as he doesn’t do much when getting to the front. Best on good or slow ground. |
| Onesmoothoperator | Though last of six in a Listed race here it was not a bad effort. Nor was his run at Ascot last time, staying on into third. Wants a strong pace at this trip. |
| Angel Power | Not really proven at this trip, and also not as effective as she was in 2020 when she won a G3 and a G2, plus also a handicap here. Handicap mark gradually easing. |
| Moktasaab | Not yet fully proven at this trip, his three wins coming at around 2000m. A solid third at Goodwood last time despite racing too keenly early on. |
| Graphite | Proved himself at this trip when winning at Ascot last year. Two disappointing runs – including here – out of three 2022 starts. |
| Farhan | Very disappointing when favourite last time out but very capable at his best as he showed when winning a prestigious Doncaster handicap late last year. Wants slow ground. |
| Parachute | Very effective at this trip and looks versatile groundwise. Responded well to pressure to win at Newbury. Chester’s turning track didn’t look to suit him last time. |
| Cormier | A tough and consistent stayer. A comfortable Chester winner last time and still looks nicely handicapped. Easing ground would help. |
| Kihavah | In top shape when winning a handicap over this course and distance in May. Races here off a 7lb higher mark. |
| Ravenscraig Castle | Not having a rewarding season so far and a beaten favourite last time. Probably needs a longer trip, and not very fanciable. |
| Party Island | Most of his wins on all-weather surfaces including 2400m handicap victories at Lingfield on his last two starts. That last win came in a good time, an obvious positive. |
| Thundering | Lightly raced and without a turf victory, though twice placed. Only just beaten by a subsequent Ascot winner on Newcastle’s all-weather last time – a career best showing. |
| Annandale | Versatile and has performed well over a variety of trips and surfaces. But hasn’t excelled at York in the past. |
