The Hong Kong Jockey Club purchased two well-connected colts at the 2022 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale for a total outlay of NZ$460,000 (approx. HK$2.4 million).

The striking colts – both sold out of Book 1 – hail from a pair of proven sires in Hong Kong, Savabeel and Per Incanto.

Lot 351 – an NZ$290,000 purchase is by Savabeel and out of the mare Kona who has already produced two winners on the track, while his sire’s record is nothing short of magnificent – including Group 1 winners Probabeel, Lucia Valentina, Shillelagh and Mo’unga.

Savabeel’s progeny have had plenty of success in Hong Kong, notably with Rattan – a HK$21 million earner who finished less than a length off Danon Smash in the 2020 G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) and Beat The Clock in the 2019 G1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1200m), while his biggest win came in the 2019 G2 Sprint Cup (1200m).

Lot 562 – a striking son of Per Incanto fell the Club’s way for NZ$170,000. Per Incanto has made waves in Hong Kong across a relatively short period; he was the leading sire through the 2020/21 racing season with 30 wins from 17 individual winners.

Per Incanto’s progeny have proven incredibly adept in Hong Kong with the likes of Duke Wai – a six-time winner with HK$10.93 million banked and Morethanlucky – third in the 2018 Hong Kong Classic Mile (1600m), while this season, A Smile Like Yours has excelled with four wins as well as Lightning Storm who boasts two.
