The Hong Kong Jockey Club purchased three striking colts at the recent 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne, Australia for a total outlay of AU$1.19 million (approx. HK$6.54 million).

The Club’s highest-priced purchase was Lot 78 for AU$550,000, a stunning son of I Am Invincible whose progeny in Hong Kong included top-level performer Wishful Thinker – a recent retiree with HK$17.07 million in earnings, while in training he has Harmony And Rich – a quality racer who currently owns Happy Valley’s 1200m course record (1m 08.46).

The second of the Club’s purchases to go through the ring was Lot 235, an attractive son of Magnus secured for AU$300,000. This is the mare Simbelation’s second foal, while her first is a two-year-old. The colt has ties to Cliff’s Edge – a dual Group 2 and Group 3 winner in Australia, while in Hong Kong, Magnus has made waves as a sire this season with the likes of Sight Success, All For St Paul’s, Harmony N Blessed and Eight Trigrams.

The gavel fell the Club’s way for Lot 572 – a son of Zoustar – who sired the first three runners across the line in the 2018 G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) with Sunlight, Zousain and Lean Mean Machine. His other notable progeny includes Zoutori, Madam Rouge and Healthy Happy – winner of the 2021 Hong Kong Classic Cup (1800m) and 2022 G3 Chinese Club Challenge Cup Handicap (1400m).
