The Hong Kong Jockey Club (the Club) is pleased to announce that CEO Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges has been elected as the Vice-President of International Horse Sports Confederation (IHSC).
Co-founded by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) and the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) in 2013, the IHSC's key missions are to encourage cooperation and the exchange of information on all matters of mutual interest between the IFHA and the FEI, as well as to represent the collective interests of the horse industry with the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and other international bodies.
The appointment of Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges, who has been the Club's CEO since 2007, underscores the recognition of Hong Kong racing amongst its global industry peers.
"I am extremely honoured to be elected Vice-President of the IHSC. I would like to thank our President, Ingmar De Vos, and the General Assembly for their trust and support. I would also like to thank our past President and IFHA Chairman Emeritus Louis Romanet who was instrumental in the establishment of the IHSC as the first vehicle for co-operation between world's leading peak horse sports bodies," said Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges. "I look forward to furthering the collective objectives of the IFHA and the FEI, as well as advocating for the horse industry with the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and other international bodies."
Upon the election of Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges, IHSC President Mr Ingmar De Vos extended his congratulations and said, "Winfried's expertise in the horse racing industry has been of great value to the work of the IHSC, as is his commitment to protecting the welfare of equine and human athletes. I look forward to continuing this close working relationship with Winfried and the IFHA."
In addition to leading the Club, Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges also serves as the Chair of the IFHA and Chairman of the Asian Racing Federation (ARF). Prior to being elected as the Vice-President of the IHSC, he served as the standing representative of the IFHA on the IHSC General Assembly.
