G3 – 1800m – Turf

Zapatillas He followed up his second place in the Grade 3 Cape Classic with a fourth place in the Grade 1 Cape Guineas, and now looks primed for his first Graded success. Judged on his Guineas run, the distance will suit him to a tee. Big contender.
Never Ending Rain Has consistently performed well in good company and runs as if the extra distance will be up his alley. Perhaps not quite good enough to take the honours on form, but a definite place chance.
Universal Has not had the best of luck in running and is better than his results suggest. From the best draw he might not have to jostle for position, which will give him the opportunity to perform at his best. To be included in exotics.
Xavion Did not impress in his last two runs, both over 1600m, and it is doubtful if the extra distance will suit this Futura colt. His form suggests he prefers shorter, and a wet track. Does not appeal much.
Waiting For Summer Impressed as a juvenile but hasn’t quite progressed like some of his peers. On current form, and in this company, a top-four finish will be a very good achievement, but it seems rather unlikely.
Pacaya The one to beat. He had excuses in his penultimate when bumped at the start, but nevertheless ran on well. Last time out in the Grade 1 Queen’s Plate he also ran on strongly, which suggests he will thrive over the extra.
Senso Unico With the benefit of having gone the distance twice, albeit in weaker company, this Twice Over colt cannot be ignored. He has been progressing in leaps and bounds since shedding his maiden tag. Consider him the value bet.
Chollima On best form he would probably find it tough in this company, and now out of form, he is not one to consider. However, this is his first run after having been gelded. Expect improvement, but not a miracle.
I Want It All Takes a big step up in class and might be found wanting. In his favour is that he went the distance last time out. He will also benefit from a slow pace, and with no recognised frontrunner, that could be the case.
Master Redoute Looks to be out of his depth. Without a prep run, it’s hard to see this Querari gelding making much of an impact, despite his win first up after gelding. He doesn’t make the shortlist.
Baratheon Doesn’t seem to have much of a chance in this company. Only exited the maidens in his penultimate run. Wasn’t disgraced last time out, but that was against much weaker than this.
