1400m – Turf

1

Georgina Rose

Her form on the Greyville Polytrack and at Scottsville on the turf has been phenomenal. The question now is whether she can replicate that on the Greyville turf. If she does, she’ll contest the finish. Added advantage is the best draw.

2

Simply Russian

An inconsistent performer who is probably outclassed in this field, she has also had her best runs on the Polytrack. Despite fresh off a victory over the distance and a good draw, it’s hard making a case for this filly, even if she manages to replicate her best form.

3

Captain Ariano

Although this season’s crop of three-year-olds is regarded as the best in years, this filly does not rate among them. In four runs since shedding her maiden tag, she has been beaten a combined 27 lengths. She won’t be there at the finish, so don’t even hold your breath.

4

Hugs Accepted

The surprise package when trying her luck in the Grade 2 Fillies Guineas last time out, running only 3.85 lengths behind a horse rated 39 points higher – and that at level weights. In this field she looks very likely to add a fourth career win to her name and maintain a win strike rate of 50%.

5

Montfort

Is yet to show on the turf with her only victory coming on the Polytrack. Even under a very light weight it’s difficult to see her earning minor money against this crowd after a break of more than six months.

6

Point Of Sale

After winning the Listed Ibhayi Stakes at Fairview early 2020, she has contested a number of graded races, never really making it. A place finish here will be an achievement, despite being one of the highest rated runners.

7

State Of Mind

Boasting seven top-four finishes from nine career runs, this filly could well add another place finish to her resume, especially as she will be carrying only 121 lb. Always tries her best and battles all the way to the line.

8

Purple Moon’s Up

Both her career wins were over 1400m, first on the Polytrack and last time out on the turf. This time round she’s taking on a lot stronger. Thanks to a light weight and the services of jockey Muzi Yeni, a place finish is the best to hope for.

9

Run April Run

This filly is still in search of a first post-maiden win. In two runs after a rest and changing trainer, she hasn’t quite convinced, beaten a combined 9 lengths. In this company she has a place chance with jockey Grant van Niekerk in the saddle.

10

Dieci

Expect a big run from this mare. Despite being beaten by Dancing Feather and Hugs Accepted respectively in her last two runs, the swing in weights could see her reverse the outcome. This will be her third run after a rest and she seems primed for this event.

11

Purple Persuasion

Another runner who seems prepped for this race, having a third run after a rest. Only just beaten by Georgina Rose last time out, she’ll be another 2 lb better off this time. Jockey Richard Fourie also could make the world of difference. Not the ideal draw though.

12

Dancing Feather

This filly is in the form of her life, with two wins from her last three runs against very strong opposition. Her last run – over course and distance – saw her take the honours from gate 8. Will be right there at the finish despite jumping from the widest gate again.
