G2 – 1000m – Turf

1

Hawkesbury

Invariably competes over further than this and it is hard to imagine he’ll have enough speed to compete with some of these rivals. Well behind on all recent starts.

2

Blitzkrieg

The US invader didn’t show a huge amount on his first Meydan start but did much better last time, finishing strongly into 2nd in a 1200m Listed handicap this month after being slowly away. Unlikely to have enough pace to win this.

3

Inverleigh

Formerly Irish-trained and a winner over as short as 1100m. Well beaten on all UAE starts so doesn’t look as though he’s nearly good enough for this.

4

Caspian Prince

A very popular old speedster who has won 19 times. He has shown lots of speed yet again this year but, having finished behind rivals today Equilateral and Waady, a win looks unlikely, but a place is not an impossible dream.

5

Equilateral

Considering the sky-high reputation he had earlier in his career he has disappointed on occasions. But Meydan could really suit him judging by his smoothly-gained victory in a 1000m Listed handicap under a big weight here last month. Ideally he wants a strong pace, not guaranteed in this field. He looks to have a class edge.

6

Waady

A G3 winner at Sandown way back in 2015. Though left behind when Equilateral sauntered clear in a handicap over this trip last month, he has been in good form this Meydan season and showed courage to beat 11 rivals here last week.

7

Poet’s Society

Will probably struggle over this speed trip, considering he hasn’t competed over 1000m since 2017. Beaten a long way in a 1400m G2 here last time.

8

Angel Alexander

Produced devastating acceleration to beat 23 rivals in a famous 1200m sprint handicap at Ayr last September. Should be sharper for his first Meydan start earlier this month.

9

Yaalail

A winner over 1400m at Abu Dhabi last December and to his credit hasn’t been beaten far in any of his four starts since. Expect him to do his best yet again but it surely won’t be good enough in this trip and in this warm company.

10

Mazzini

His two Meydan wins last year came in handicap company, once with an aggressive ride, and once from off the speed. Tactics in this field will be crucial and a muddling pace may give him the best chances of outgunning Equilateral – the most obvious winner here.
