G1 – 1400m – Turf

City Light

May start favourite for this. Very adaptable – effective on turf and all-weather and between 1000m and 1400m. Despite racing too keenly he convincingly won a G3 over this course and distance last month, an excellent prep for this.

One Master

Her strong late surge saw her land a surprise win in this race last year. Couldn’t make an impact in the LONGINES Hong Kong Mile but has finished close up in G1’s on her last three starts. This 1400m is her ideal trip.

Sir Dancealot

Never fast enough to figure in the 2018 LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint but very effective at  this distance, winning G2’s over it this year at Goodwood and last time out at Doncaster. Not beaten far when fifth in this G1 last year.

Waldpfad

German trained but he gained a G3 winning strike in the UK over 1200m at Newbury in July – always travelling smoothly. Another good show came at Haydock (1200m) last month when third of 11, his first G1 venture. A past winner over this trip.

Glorious Journey

His trainer thinks that this distance on slow ground are ideal for him. And under those circumstances he won a G2 at Newbury last time. A consistent gelding who seems to be still getting better.

Safe Voyage

Very effective at 1400m as he showed with three consecutive victories over it earlier in the season, all at Haydock and on varying degrees of slow ground. Raced too freely at Newbury last time and was unable to justify favouritism.

Speak In Colours

His five career wins have all come over 1200m though he has run respectably over this longer distance also. The way he responded to pressure from his rider was impressive when recently winning a G3 on soft ground at The Curragh.

Hey Gaman

UK-trained but has proven winning credentials over this course and distance, landing a G3 here in May – determinedly fending off all attackers. Has twice finished a close second in G2’s since but well below his best at Newbury last time.

Graignes

A rare winner but did finish fourth in a 1600m G1 here in May. He also finished well when second of 11 to City Light in a G3 last month, proving his effectiveness over this course and distance.

Wasmya

Has only raced four times but she has won her last three with facts and figures suggesting race-by-race improvement. Most recently she showed good acceleration to easily win a well-contested Listed event over this distance at Baden-Baden. That was on good ground but she has also won on softer.

Forever In Dreams

Though an outsider, she ran an excellent second in a Royal Ascot G1 over 1200m back in June. Returning 78 days later she didn’t show nearly the same zip when well beaten in another 1200m G1, at Haydock. Moving up to this trip for the first time.

Marianafoot

His last three starts have come over this course and distance and the last two have been very respectable, latterly when fourth behind likely favourite City Light here last month. Seems best on good ground.
