G1 – 2000m – Turf

Ligne D’Or

Did win over this trip last year but has been competing over further recently. A big odds outsider for a G1 over 2400m here last month, and though never looking like winning, ran a very good third – quite possibly a career best performance.

With You

Outpaced at one point in this race last year but very fast in the closing stages to finish 2 1/2L fourth. Has had a light 2019 but a close second in G1’s on her last two starts, again finishing fast over this distance (on heavy ground) at Deauville last time.

Watch Me

An outsider for a G1 at Royal Ascot in June but she delivered a determined surge to win. Tackling older horses for the first time she was a shade disappointing at Deauville last start, but moves up to 2000m today. Pedigree says it might help.

Edisa

Gained her third win from six starts this year when taken to the USA for a valuable Fillies’ event at Belmont Park over 2200m. Always travelling well, she proved quite a comfortable winner and her trainer believes she is open to more improvement.

Pink Dogwood

Came very close to winning the G1 Oaks at Epsom in May but though placed in two G1’s at The Curragh subsequently hasn’t progressed from that big show. And her disappointing display here last month doesn’t add any encouragement.

Villa Marina

Has progressed in the second part of the season including a win over this course and distance, a defeat of a subsequent big-race winner and race opponent Edisa in a G3 at Deauville and an encouraging fourth on her G1 debut here last month.

Cartiem

Won a G3 at Saint-Cloud in May but disappointed on two subsequent starts. Did better when third in a 2000m G2 at Deauville in August but doesn’t look an obvious winner on this first run at Longchamp.

Mehdaayih

An athletic, well balanced filly, she was taken out of the Arc earlier this week with this target in mind. A string of good performances this year, perhaps the best being when second in a Goodwood G1 last time, having to fight for the early lead and just proving vulnerable late on.

Terebellum

Slow to mature and has only raced three times but looks very useful based on her latest start when she landed a G2 over this distance at Deauville in August, easily grabbing the lead and streaking clear. A terrific trial for this.

Etoile

She won a G3 on very soft ground at Saint-Cloud back in May and then was doing strong work in the closing stages when fourth in the prestigious G1 Prix de Diane over 2100m at Chantilly. However after a 62-day break she proved a disappointing favourite at Deauville.

Goddess

Having her first start outside Ireland. She has been gradually improving and survived a difficult trip to beat 11 rivals in an 1800m G3 at The Curragh in August. Running a good second in a G2 at the same track subsequently.

Fleeting

Despite some good efforts she has failed to win this season and didn’t have anything to offer in the closing stages when fifth in a 2400m G1 here last month. She may be vulnerable to some more progressive types.

Commes

Has won just one of her six starts but yet to run a bad race and, in June, only just failed to win Chantilly’s G1 Prix de Diane (2100m). Just outspeeded in a strong 1600m G3 at Deauville subsequently but the move back up in distance should certainly be in her favour.
