1400m – Turf

Viscount Barfield

Seems to have improved for his current trainer having previously been based in Scandanavia, though a few years ago when UK based he won plenty of races and was a specialist at this trip. Won on muddy ground at Deauville in August.

Carlton Choice

In terrific form since joining this stable, especially here with his last three Longchamp runs resulting in victory – the last two at this trip. Defied another handicap rise here last month, showing lots of courage in a tense finish.

Millfield

A close fifth in this last year, he likes this track and was a narrow winner in an 18-runner field over course and distance back in April. Then soundly beaten in three starts on other tracks, but a solid fourth back here in September.

Salt Lake City

On his first start for this trainer he was a surprise winner of a course and distance conditions race here back in May. Generally performing consistently well since then and was a close third here last month.

Sandyssime

Two wins from five starts this season, handicaps over 1600m at Saint-Cloud and Deauville. Further back in his career he has winning form over this course and distance on muddy ground.

Zavrinka

Adapable regarding surface and distance, she will again encounter some of the rivals she met in a course and distance handicap here last month. Wearing blinkers for the first time she was only eighth then but wasn’t beaten far.

Hopeless

Not very consistent but proved too strong at the end for 17 rivals over this course and distance back in June. Most of his career starts on turf have come on a slow surface, conditions that appear to suit.

French Pegasus

Did win a 1300m handicap at Deauville in August though that was on an all-weather surface. He so far can’t match the achievements of many of his rivals over this course and distance – well beaten on each try over it.

Troizilet

Ran a close third in this last year and was the winner of a minor event under Christophe Soumillon over 1300m on the Deauville all-weather in July.

Post Var

One of the most fancied contenders in this last year, finishing a close fourth in a tense finish. Arrives here in good shape, only just been beaten in a handicap over course and distance last month. Meets many of the same rivals again here.

Dark American

Fancied in the betting but little went right for him here last month, finishing last of 15 with many of those finishing in front of him back in opposition today. Had run much better over this course and distance when a close fourth in June.

George The Prince

Bounced back from some modest efforts to win a 1200m Deauville handicap under a big weight and on heavy ground in August. Very slow conditions would again be helpful.

Icefinger

Has had far fewer races than most of his rivals. His narrow defeat on his 2019 return over this course and distance in July was encouraging but two subsequent starts less so.

Larno

Had endured a 1ong losing run until suddenly bouncing back to win a 1600m handicap here last month. Given his inconsistent profile one must wonder whether he will give another good show today.

Komodo

Enjoyed a rewarding spell on the Marseille tracks earlier in the year but has struggled – though not disgraced – off higher handicap ratings on the stronger  Paris tracks more recently.

Angel Islington

Failed to win from 10 starts in the UK, including some very modest performances. Facts and figures suggest she has improved since moving to France and she was a 1600m winner at Deauville in August.

Daimyo

Did manage to win consecutive races in 2018 but was well beaten in claiming company on his last two starts which is not encouraging for today.

Gone Solo

Had been struggling to win this season but, helped by a reduced handicap mark. he was able to quite easily win a 1200m handicap at Maisons-Laffitte last month. Also effective at this longer trip.

Yssingeaux

The winner of a maiden event over this distance at Compiegne in July but has made no huge impact in handicaps at Deauville or Longchamp subsequently.

Beyond My Dreams

Has won four of his 23 starts, the latest coming over 1600m at Marseille in July.  No great impact in two subsequent starts at Deauville and he may need to drop further in the handicap.

Glorious Emaraty

Failed to score in nine attempts though went close to winning various times in low grade events when trained in the UK. No great promise in two starts – unfancied in the betting each time -since moving to France.

Mon Paris

Has hit a winning streak recently with victories on the provincial tracks at Marseille, Vichy and Lyon. A rising handicap mark and tougher opposition will surely make things more challenging here.
