2392m – Turf
1 | Byron Flyer | Gained three successive handicap wins last season, all at this distance. Returned to top form this month when in and out of the lead and only outgunned by a well handicapped rival at Epsom. |
2 | Ben Vrackie | Yet to win from five starts on turf but he did finish last season with a career best performance, keeping on well into third in a valuable Newmarket handicap over this trip. |
3 | Baghdad | Brave at the finish, he won a different Royal Ascot handicap on fast ground over this distance last year. Raced too freely off a slow pace but still managed to win at Newmarket last month. |
4 | Sea The Lion | Hasn’t been seen since third of 20 in a York handicap last August. Probably wants drying ground whilst veterans like him don’t have a good record in this race. |
5 | Pivoine | Has been beaten 7L, 8L and 6L on his three starts this season though the last two were respectable efforts in G3 company. He is a five times winner but looks to have a harsh handicap mark now. |
6 | Spark Plug | Has failed to win or be placed in six previous runs at Ascot – a bit of a worry. Has twice run well – without winning – over further than this on the all-weather this year. |
7 | Secret Advisor | A classy type who is having his first start for 664 days. Has solid Royal Ascot form and was a closing third in the G2 Queen’s Vase, over further than this, in 2017. |
8 | Aquarium | Has already raced 10 times this year, eventually winning around Chester’s bends last month. Well beaten last time and doesn’t have a good Ascot record. |
9 | Lethal Steps | Hasn’t won on the Flat since 2017, doing all his recent racing – with some success – over hurdles. His trainer can work magic but this still looks difficult. |
10 | Lucius Tiberius | Disappointed on his only previous run here, at Royal Ascot last year. He did almost beat a heavily-backed favourite in a strong York handicap last time. |
11 | Sevenna Star | Career highlight so far came when a strong finish resulted in a G3 at Sandown in April 2018. However he has badly regressed, beaten a long way on all starts since. |
12 | Top Tug | Has run in this for the past three years, finishing seventh, fourth, and was fifth last year off a 4lb more difficult handicap mark than now, but his last two starts have been moderate. |
13 | Arthurian Fame | Unbeaten in two Irish handicaps over this distance since being gelded. Will need to survive a sharply rising handicap mark but from this stable it could happen. |
14 | Collide | Returned to action at Kempton in April, outspeeding his rivals despite racing too keenly early. Couldn’t quicken late on at York last time, but it was still a good effort in a hot handicap. |
15 | Downdraft | Made brief progress in a handicap at The Curragh last time but then faded. A four-times winner, he ran a respectable sixth in a Royal Ascot handicap last year. |
16 | Corgi | Looks to have been targetted at this race which the stable have won twice before. Ran a good third at York last time despite racing on the less favourable side of the track. |
17 | Fujaira Prince | Now faces a high handicap mark but that is because of two excellent efforts this season, winning at Doncaster and then only just beaten in a hot York handicap on ground thought faster than ideal. |
18 | Kasperenko | Made a sweeping move out wide to come from last and win a Listed race at Kempton last November, his last start. Has won after a break before. Has moved stables. Stays well. |
19 | Johnny Drama | A long-striding gelding, best suited to slow ground. Impressive when winning both 2019 starts, especially when leading nearly all the way last time. A big jump in the weights might not prevent a big show here. |

20 | Temple Church | The very easy winner of a soft-ground Newbury handicap over this distance last September but three dismal efforts followed. Makes 2019 return now. |
21 | Ming | Won twice in Ireland in 2018 over shorter than this on fast ground. Has run okay in different grades of races since, but will need this rise to 2392m to improve him. |
22 | Restorer | From a stable that had a winner here on Tuesday. Didn’t look to enjoy the fast ground when disappointing last time but stays this trip well and is nicely handicapped. |
