1600m – Turf
1 | Certain Lad | Three times a winner at two and doing well when making some overseas trips, running a close third in a 1200m G2 at The Curragh and winning a 1600m French Listed race – at Lyon – getting an aggressive ride from up front. His good claiming rider will help with his tough handicap mark. |
2 | Victory Command | This stable famously keep their horses busy and this colt raced nine times in 2018 including three straight wins ending with a front-running 1400m Listed success at Ascot. Disappointed in Meydan and didn’t have enough late pace over 1400m here last month. |
3 | Mordred | The winner of one of his seven starts last year but he proved himself over this course and distance when a good second last September. Drops back to this distance following his 2019 debut over 2000m here, last of five but not bad considering he was giving weight to all his rivals. |
4 | Pogo | Did win a handicap in his first year but found things too hot when tried in G3 and G2 company. Went for a valuable all-weather Listed event over a similar distance to this for his 2019 debut, running a respectable sixth. Oisin Murphy takes over today. |
5 | Leroy Leroy | A straight 1600m looks ideal – that was the scenario of his sole victory, in a Doncaster handicap last September. Made an encouraging start to 2019 when fourth on the Kempton all-weather last month, a slowly run event that developed into a sprint. |
6 | Blonde Warrior | Only one modest effort at two when he won two of his five starts. However he ran a dismal first outing this year at Newbury last month, dropping right out to finish a remote last of 14. Maybe he hated the soft ground there. |
7 | Global Warning | Has run decently on all four starts, doing best last time when booting away from his 12 rivals in a handicap on the all-weather at Newcastle, and earning some positive quotes from jockey Gerald Mosse. Does need to prove his stamina, up at 1600m here. |
8 | Alkaamel | Started favourite for three all-weather handicaps earlier this year, and won each time. Arguably he has run even better in two narrow defeats since, latterly when returning to a grass surface but just failing to run down a front-running rival over this trip at Ripon. |
9 | Brian Epstein | Improved race by race as a two-year-old, winning a novices’ event over this distance on his final start. Just got tired in the closing battle in a handicap over this course and distance last month. No surprise if he is sharper this time. |
10 | Fox Leicester | Gained a comfortable first career victory when easily beating three rivals over this distance at Chelmsford in March. Back on turf he started favourite for a classy -looking Sandown handicap last month. Kicked into an early lead, but three rivals proved too strong in the closing battle. |
