1200m – Turf

1 Another Batt Gave the stable a winner from their first Meydan Carnival runner when landing a 1400m handicap in January. Couldn’t handle the upgrade to a G2 subsequently, whilst a low gate was not help in a 1200m handicap last time – still running a solid 4th.
2 Intisaab This veteran UK-trained speedster needs a strong pace to aim at and he got that about this time last year when landing a valuable prize in Doha, Qatar. Started his 2019 Meydan campaign off positively when 3rd in January, but plum last on his latest two starts.
3 Log Out Island A high gate has proved advantageous over 1200m on turf at Meydan this season, but his form in the UAE leaves plenty to be desired and he was always struggling when last of nine at Jebel Ali last November, his latest start.
4 Legendary Lunch Did finish 2nd in a G2 at Doncaster earlier in his career but generally struggled at the top level. However in great form in the UAE now, twice winning at Abu Dhabi over 1400m recently and with no worries over this shorter trip.
5 Ekhtiyaar His three UK wins were all at this trip. Now with local trainer Doug Watson and gelded, he ran a solid 3rd of 14 behind today’s rival Another Batt in a 1400m handicap in January. Re-united with Jim Crowley who has won on him before.
6 Dream Today Had a low winning strike-rate in the UK but it proved a shrewd move to drop him to 1200m for his Meydan debut, getting home in front in such a tight finish that only 1.5L separated the first six. Didn’t do anything wrong when 3rd of 12 here earlier this month.
7 Fas Successful at up to G3 level over this distance for this stable in France and back with them after a disappointing spell in Ireland. Didn’t make much impact on his Meydan debut over 1400m earlier this month but that experience and the drop in trip might help.
8 Never Back Down Improved for a gelding operation last year, landing a surprise victory in Listed company over this trip at Newbury. However two Meydan handicap attempts this year have been disappointing so he has something to prove right now.
9 Quayside Will face plenty of race-hardened rivals on this first Meydan start and first start since last November when a close 4th over 1300m on the Chantilly polytrack. His high gate could be helpful, as it has tended to be advantageous over this distance at Meydan this season.
10 Alfredo Arcano A big strong seven-times winner who is effective on grass and the all-weather. His two Meydan ventures this year have been over this trip doing better first time (when a close 4th of 12) than most recently.
11 Double Up A useful sprinter in the UK and now with a stable who tend to bring the right horses to Meydan. However he will need to upgrade on a modest start here when a well beaten 10th earlier this month.
12 Glenamoy Lad Boasts two wins from 15 starts on turf, both at this distance. He wasn’t beaten far on his Meydan debut in January but hasn’t threatened to win in two starts since including when trying the dirt surface last time. From a shrewd UK stable.
13 Love Dreams Amazingly back in action quickly after an extraordinary incident at a recent Meydan meeting when he fell down two flights of concrete stairs. He won twice at this distance at the beginning of his career but has been racing over further since. Often fast from the gate.
14 Riflescope Gained the fourth win of his career over this course and distance earlier in the month when coming with a smooth challenge from off the pace to beat 11 rivals with some ease. Still well enough handicapped and, in the same mood, could again play a major role.
