The Hong Kong Jockey Club bought nine eye-catching colts out of Books 1 and 2 of the recent Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in Newmarket, England, for a total outlay of 2,215,000 guineas (approximately HK$23.78 million).

Lot 308 drew a successful bid of 525,000 guineas during the second session of the auction’s elite Book 1 portion. The athletic grey colt is by the top-class speed influence Kodiac out of the two-time Listed winner Coolnagree, from a family with a famous connection to Hong Kong.

The youngster’s second dam is a half-sister to none other than former Hong Kong Champion Sprinter Lucky Nine, winner of the G1 Hong Kong Sprint as well as two editions of the G1 KrisFlyer International Sprint among 14 career victories.

Earlier that day, the Club secured Lot 215 for 325,000 guineas. The bay Camacho colt is out of a winning daughter of US G1 winner Aptostar.

Book 1’s opening session yielded three HKJC purchases. Lot 76 is a Fastnet Rock colt from the family of Japanese G1 hero Fiero and European champion Rock Of Gibraltar, as well as Hong Kong G3 winner Pleasure Gains; Lot 80 is by Exceed And Excel out of a half-sister to G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen victor Our New Recruit; Lot 142 is a Farhh youngster from the family of G1 winners Move In Time and Shake The Yoke, being out of a half-sister to the high-class sprinter Tropical Star.

The Club purchased four more colts during Book 2. Among them was Lot 939, a bay Zoffany colt out of the talented Bahia Breeze. The family features smart Hong Kong winners Art Of Success and Aashiq.

Lot 979 is from an outstanding gene pool, his third dam being Alruccaba, the matriarch of a family that has produced a host of black type performers including G1 winners Aussie Rules, Allegretto, Alborada, Albanova, Yesterday, Quarter Moon and Diamondsandrubies, as well as the notable talents Last Second, Approach and Alleluia.

Lot 566 is an Oasis Dream colt out of the G1-placed mare Path Wind; Lot 1068 is a Slade Power colt from the family of Kutub, a multiple G1 winner in Europe and also successful in the Singapore Gold Cup.
