Join the National Day celebration at Sha Tin Racecourse on Monday, 1 October

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will celebrate National Day along with racing fans at Sha Tin Racecourse during the National Day Race Meeting on Monday, 1 October.  

A rehearsal session was held at the Racecourse today (30 September) as Cai Nan, a famous soprano from China National Opera House, prepared for her race day performance.

The opening ceremony will begin in the Parade Ring at 12:05pm on 1 October with cultural and artistic performances. Cai Nan will join the ceremony to lead the national anthem, accompanied by the Hong Kong Police Band, while the famous Shenzhen Fuyong Acrobatic Troupe will catch audience’s eyes with their impressive performance combining dance and balancing skills inspired by Chinese traditional paper-cutting.

Mr. Zhao Jiankai, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the HKSAR, will officiate at the opening ceremony, whilst Mr. Yang Jian, Deputy Director of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, will officiate at the trophy presentation of the National Day Cup. 

A range of National Day-themed merchandise, featuring a souvenir envelope issued jointly by the Club and Hongkong Post, will be on sale at Sha Tin’s designated sale counter and Gift at Races souvenir shops on 1 October. 

To mark the National Day, a variety of speciality dishes will be available throughout the racecourse.

The day’s highlights are the season’s first two Group races – the G3 National Day Cup (1000m) and the G3 Celebration Cup (1400m).

The National Day Race Meeting is a 10-race programme with the first starting at 1pm.  The day’s highlights are the season’s first two Group races – the G3 National Day Cup (1000m) and the G3 Celebration Cup (1400m), to be run as Race 7 and Race 8 respectively.

Sha Tin Racecourse will open at 11am on 1 October. Tourists to Hong Kong will be offered free admission by showing a valid travel document upon entry to the Public Enclosure (excluding fee-charging venues) at Sha Tin Racecourse.
