G3 – 2400m – Turf
| Captain Splendid | One of three runners from the Justin Snaith yard who lost the G3 Gold Vase over 3000m last year on an objection. He will be looking at bigger races this season but has a top jockey in Bernard Fayd’Herbe. |
| Mr Winsome | Was fancied to win last year’s Durban July but finished last and has battled to regain his best form. His merit rating has not dropped sufficiently for him to be competitive again and will need to show better form before one follows him. |
| Strathdon | Another Snaith runner who won four races in a row in Cape Town before having a five-month rest. Needed his last run in the G2 Greyville 1900 and should improve markedly on that effort. Has the ability to win a race of this nature. |
| Made To Conquer | Snaith’s third runner who is highly rated by his stable. They are confident of a big run and will supplement him into the Durban July if he puts in a good effort in this event. |
| Shenanigans | From the yard of champion trainer Sean Tarry. The four-year-old has lots of talent but has often not shown to have much fight when in a tight finish. This will be his first start over 2400m and would do well to place in this company. |
| Hero Quest | Strong front runner who loves this course. He is unbeaten in three runs on the turf track and last time was a runaway winner of the Highland Night Cup. Comes in with a light weight and will be hard to peg back if allowed to dictate. |
| Hyaku | Another runner from the Tarry yard who finished a 2.75L second to Hero Quest last time. This six-year-old appears to be at his best over this distance and has a winning chance. |
| Techno Captain | Was well beaten in the Highland Night Cup although his trainer felt his charge should have performed better and had the vet take a look at him although nothing was found. Would do well to run a place in this field. |
| Liquid Rainbow | Tried 2400m for the first time in his last start but pulled hard in the early stages. He did well to finish fourth behind Hero Quest. He is capable of running a place in this company. |
| Sheet Weaver | A visitor from Johannesburg, this five-year-old gelding will be having his first run at Greyville. He does stay the distance and trainer Alec Laird would not have brought him down if he felt his charge did not have a chance. |
| Silver De Lange | Ran well enough when third in the Highland Night Cup and can only improve on that run. He is 5.5lb under sufferance with Hero Quest but has a jockey in Muzi Yeni who is having the best run of his career in feature races. |
| Viento | Tries this distance for the first time but should see it out based on his breeding. A bigger concern is that his last three wins have all been on the Polytrack and his turf form has not been all that great. Would be a surprise winner. |
