Listed – 3245m – Turf

1

Fun Mac

Has no distance worries but he did run poorly in this race last year. He’s put up good efforts this season including a close third of 17 in a hot Chester handicap and he wasn’t beaten far in a marathon stamina test at Royal Ascot last month.

2

Goldmember

He’s only won a maiden so far and, though there were some encouraging efforts last season including over a similar distance to this, he was beaten a long way on his only 2017 start – his first run since being gelded.

3

High Jinx

A G1 winner at Longchamp back in 2014, he’s got class and stamina on his side though his previous trainer always avoided running him on fast ground. He ran a cracking third – fighting all the way – in a York G2 in May, his first start for two years.

4

Montaly

Returned from a break to beat 16 rivals in a prestigious staying handicap over an even longer trip than this. Well worth a crack at this Listed event though his trainer is hoping that the ground changes from fast to good or slower.

5

Nearly Caught

Sent into the lead about 400m out in this race last year but couldn’t quite hold on, still running a close third. Plenty of good runs since – including two Deauville wins – at top European tracks and purely on ratings he’s got a good chance here.

6

Oriental Fox

He is all about stamina and courage having won the longest race in the UK calendar at Royal Ascot in 2015 and again two weeks ago. Happy on any ground, the main question is whether this shorter distance will provide enough of a stamina test.

7

Alyssa

Talented though quirky, she is yet to run over this far but has shown plenty of stamina on various occasions including when landing a Listed event at Ascot last September. Sweating badly beforehand, she ran dismally on her only 2017 start.
