G1 – 1000m – Turf

1

Equality

Recorded a personal best when winning a G3 at Sandown in July. Nothing went right for him – including stumbling at the start – at Goodwood last time.

2

Khaadem

Fourth in this last year, he is brilliant on his day as he showed when surging from the back to win a 1200m Royal Ascot G1 at 80-1. The slow ground wasn’t ideal at Newmarket last time.

3

Live In The Dream

Led throughout to win his first two 2023 starts, and then this 1000m specialist was fast enough to finish placed in a G3 and a G2. Couldn’t improve on that at Deauville but may have needed it after a 71-day break.

4

Regional

Leads or races prominently and is much improved this season, unbeaten in two starts – a handicap over this course and distance and then a Listed event at Haydock. Best chance on a fast surface.

5

Tees Spirit

Will be a long odds outsider here. Had an excellent time in 2022 winning five times – and all at this trip – but has finished a long way behind on his last two starts.

6

Twilight Calls

This former handicapper has since proved capable of handling Group company, only just failing to win a G2 sprint last year.  A good fourth in a Royal Ascot G1 last time considering a bad passage.

7

Aesop’s Fables

Despite coming from a top trainer/jockey combination he will start at long odds here, though outsiders have occasionally won this G1. Respectable placed efforts in both 2023 starts.

8

Bradsell

Has won three of his six starts and posted a clear career best when outpacing prolific G1 winner Highfield Princess and 15 others in a G1 Royal Ascot sprint. This has been the target since then.

9

Get Ahead

Came from the back to win a 1200m fast-ground Listed event at Haydock in May, and then only just failed to win a 1000m G2 dash at Chantilly. Not as good at Sandown last time.

10

Highfield Princess

This super speedster has a remarkable win and placed record at the top level and won this G1 easily last year. She arrives here fresh off a smooth G2 victory at Goodwood. Big chance.

11

Ladies Church

Led in the last stride of a G2 sprint at The Curragh last year. A listed race winner at Naas in May but weakened right out of contention behind Highfield Princess at Goodwood this month.

12

Makarova

An unlikely winner at half-way but rapid progress saw her win a Listed event at Ayr this season. Has twice run well in Group company since. An outsider but outsiders have won this in recent years.

13

Nymphadora

A big plus is that she is unbeaten in two starts over this course and distance, latterly landing a Listed prize here in July. Generally consistent but below her best at Goodwood this month.

14

Dramatised

Probably unsuited by the step up to 1200m when disappointing on her only previous run at York. A G2 winner at Haydock in May and absent since disappointing at Royal Ascot. Fast ground wanted.

15

Queen Me

Only win so far in maiden company and all starts have been over further than this, though she did show plenty of speed to be placed in a G2 here, and a G3, last year. An interesting outsider.

16

Big Evs

It’s been a while since a 2yo won this famous dash but this colt is very fast indeed as he showed with his Listed win at Ascot and his G3 victory at Goodwood. Gets plenty of weight from his older rivals.
