1600m - Turf
1 |
Farasi Lane |
Gained the sixth win of his career in a Kempton handicap over this trip last month, probably a personal best effort. Also, very effective on a turf surface. |
2 |
Pjanoo |
Gelded since last season and that looks to have made him more effective, comfortably beating eight rivals in a Wolverhampton handicap last month. Likely to be ridden prominently. |
3 |
Chuzzlewit |
Has not so far lived up to some lofty expectations of his trainer though he has won twice including a Newcastle all-weather handicap over this trip in March. |
4 |
Darkness |
A very poor show when last on his most recent start. Some much livelier efforts last year including a fast-ground 1600m success on Newmarket’s July course. |
5 |
Rowayeh |
Won a fast-ground handicap over this trip at Sandown last June, only racing twice more in 2023. She still looks quite decently handicapped if super fit for this return. |
6 |
Arthur’s Realm |
Placed more often than he wins but he is capable of an impressive change of gears as he showed when sweeping clear of his rivals at Beverley 9 days ago. Up 5lb for that good effort. |
7 |
Crack Shot |
Quick conditions wanted here. Not seen since last September, but no trip worries for this two-time winner. |
8 |
Legend Of Leros |
A big gelding whose only win so far came in maiden company on soft ground. Not seen since a solid fourth at Kempton 136 days ago. Plenty of stamina for this trip. |
9 |
Bystander |
Probably excuses for his only previous turf run – when favourite on his career debut – and he has won twice since then, especially impressive in a 2000m handicap at Lingfield in March. |
10 |
Aalto |
Some smart winning form when trained in France, including landing an 1800m handicap at Longchamp last June. Will need to improve from his two UK starts later in 2023. |
11 |
Sudden Ambush |
Has had a break since a modest run at Wolverhampton in March, racing too freely and eased down near the end. Had previously battled hard to win a 1600m Kempton handicap. |
12 |
Larado |
Has won five of his 43 runs in a busy career but only now having his first start at Newmarket. Perhaps it will bring out the best in him as Epsom has done where he has won twice. |
13 |
Carolus Magnus |
Has a modest winning strike-rate and beaten in his last 15 starts. More positively he has sometimes performed very well here including 1400m and 1600m wins in 2021. |
14 |
Bodorgan |
Only win so far came in a 1400m novices’ event here back in 2022. Now gelded, he showed plenty of dash back here last month, only 1.3L behind the winner in a decent handicap. |
15 |
Epsom Faithfull |
A fine stable servant having won ten of her 37 starts, including two all-weather handicap wins this year. Now proven at this trip, much will depend how she enjoys her first Newmarket start. |
16 |
Zozimus |
Just one win (on an all-weather surface) in his disappointing career and now beaten in his last 24 starts. Very hard to recommend. |
17 |
Speriamo |
To be ridden for the first time by Saffie Osborne who has been in great form this year. Proved that she handled this track well when landing a 1400m handicap here back in 2022. |
