The Hong Kong Jockey Club bought a pair of striking colts at the recent Goffs Orby Sale in Ireland for a total outlay of €520,000 (approx. HK$4,096,000).
The first to fall the Club’s way was Lot 361, an attractive youngster by Night Of Thunder. A two-time Group 1 winner in Great Britain, Night Of Thunder’s current progeny includes Europe’s highest-rated filly, Highfield Princess, who recently completed a Group 1 hat-trick in the space of only five weeks with victories in France, Great Britain and Ireland.
In Hong Kong, Night Of Thunder has two sons, notably Lord Thunder, who burst onto the scene last season with two wins from two starts. The chestnut colt headed to Hong Kong is out of the mare Blanche Neige, who produced the Group 3-winning Rumbles Of Thunder.
Lot 491 is an attractive bay colt by Siyouni, whose offspring is headlined by Sottsass, St Mark’s Basilica and Laurens, who between them, have won 14 Group 1s. In Hong Kong, Siyouni has returned 21 wins overall by his progeny, led by seven from Leading Fortune with three of these coming in succession earlier this year.
