G2 – 1600m – Turf
Arnis Master |
Winner of a couple of valuable domestic sales races. Winless at a higher level but likely to give a very good account even if it is hard to see him actually winning. |
Best Lightning |
Second in domestic 2000 Guineas last year, and good bits of form – even in defeat – since. Already a two-time winner this term including over course and distance followed by two defeats, including at Ascot when trying to give weight to useful horses. Likely to be in the mix. |
Calif |
Form has reached new levels since switched to his current trainer. Had some of these rivals behind when an excellent second in a Dusseldorf G3. Likely a big player for his in-form trainer. |
Dapango |
Lightly raced and with a very shrewd stable. Has been set some stiff tasks but coming back in trip to 1600m resulted in a career-best performance when third at Dusseldorf latest. Looks a serious contender. |
Fire Of The Sun |
Trainer’s second string and one of the lowest rated in the field. Finished second in Italian 2000 Guineas but only win came in a Maiden in France. An outsider. |
Hurricane Dream |
Yet to win above Listed level and winless this season but from a powerful French yard and ambitiously campaigned in some better races than this so this represents a drop in class. Not ground dependent and is in with a chance. |
Rubaiyat |
Talented performer whose best form makes him a threat to all but is winless this season over a range of different trips. This distance looks right but much will depend on whether he is in the right mood. |
Runnymede |
Better than ever this year at the age of six. Mixes French and German races and very good fourth in this in 2020. Very ground-dependent (needs good or better). |
Simply Striking |
A 1600m winner in Spain on his penultimate start – his seventh career win. However his occasional appearances in ‘Black Type’ races hasn’t revealed any winning efforts yet, and never a serious factor in a Chantilly G3 last time. |
Zavaro |
Outran his odds over course and distance in May but yet to win at this level and losing sequence stretches back to April last year. |
