This outstanding dual G1 winning stayer has a tremendous chance on form even if he is not quite proven at this marathon trip. The big issue is ground – he needs it slow.

Earlofthecotswolds

Some good winning form but his vulnerabilities exposed when beaten a long way in a G1 here on Thursday. Surely he won’t bounce back to win this.

Stratum

No stamina worries for him, having won this marathon last year, and going clear in the last 200m. Much faster ground expected here this year, but he’s won on fast before.

Calling The Wind

Second in this last year before winning over another marathon trip at Goodwood. Good ground preferable to a fast surface.

Falcon Eight

His trainer blames soft ground for a heavy defeat in this last year. A good fifth under a big weight in a prestigious Chester handicap last time.

Highway Companion

First run on the Flat proper, though he is a winner over hurdles. Unlikely to strike here.

Master Milliner

From a family that improve with age. He seems to be doing that, and was a good second last time. Handles fast ground.

Nate The Great

Facts and figures suggest that his last two starts have been career best runs, latterly when second in a Sandown G3. Chance if this longer trip suits.

Reshoun

Made ground in the straight but couldn’t make further headway late on when fifth in Tuesday’s Ascot Stakes, a race he had won last year.

Timour

A rare runner for his brilliant French trainer in this type of event. Fair recent form, but he’s taking a giant leap in distance, not convincing on pedigree that he will stay.

Wordsworth

Looks lazy sometimes and wasn’t quick enough over 2400m at The Curragh last time, but this real stamina test could be just what the relentless galloper needs. Chance.

Dinard Rose

Mostly very well beaten on recent starts. Impossible to recommend.

Ran well for a long way in this race last year but well held at the end. Likely to be the same here.

Urban Artist

Didn’t have a good passage but was a staying-on second in a York G3 last time. Might last this trip whilst rain would be a plus.
