G3 – 1800m – Turf
1 |
Kommetdieding |
Top colt who has not been pushed to win his first three races. While he missed out on the G1 Cape Guineas, he defeated a good group of elders in his handicap debut. Will be very hard to beat. |
2 |
Rascallion |
Very decent colt who has run 3rd in three successive three-year-old features, including the 1600m G1 Cape Guineas. Looks the main (and perhaps only) danger to Kommetdieding and has the services of Anton Marcus. |
3 |
Crimson King |
Third in the 1600m G1 Premiers Champion Stakes in Durban but no winners have come from that race so the form looks suspect. Well held by Rascallion but could improve in second run since having been gelded. |
4 |
Hoedspruit |
Reasonable form at a lower level but is held by Rascallion on two runs. Clearly has some ability and is from the powerful Justin Snaith stable and if he improves, should run into the places. |
5 |
Red Lark |
Won three races in a row at Durbanville but that is a very different track to Kenilworth where he has not done that well. Will need to improve to trouble the top two but could get some lesser place money. |
6 |
My Bestie |
Glen Kotzen’s charge started his career with a win and then finished a 2L 4th to subsequent G1 Queen’s Plate winner Jet Dark in the G3 Langerman (1500m). Was gelded after that but does look held on his feature-race form. |
7 |
Fast Love |
Won on the Polytrack at Greyville on debut but has done little since. Has shown improvement in his last start after gelding but has a wide draw and looks that will not make things easy for his jockey. Place chance. |
8 |
Northern Song |
Although going down narrowly to Hoedspruit in a Maiden Plate and the fact he is certain to stay 1800m, there is little to recommend this son of Oratorio. Also jumps from a wide draw but does have a good jockey. |
9 |
Mach Four |
Had a slow start to his career and only won a Maiden Plate at the fifth time of asking. Followed up with a victory in a handicap. Stable jockey Richard Fourie rides, but his mount does have a mountain to climb. |
10 |
Dubai Lights |
An interesting runner who has not run a poor race but has been unable to trouble the leading three-year-olds. Has no problem with the distance and could be there if the top contenders fluff their lines. Good outsider. |
11 |
Juan Carlos |
A son of Frankel but has not displayed a glimmer of his illustrious sire’s talent so far. Has been lightly raced and there could be improvement to come, but he looks out of his depth at this stage of his career. |
12 |
Kaptein |
Consistent runner who will win his share of races but it is unlikely to happen in this race. He is badly weighted and does not have the form to really trouble the leading contenders. Could sneak into a place, though. |
13 |
Legitimate |
Took five runs to win his maiden but has not finished out of Top 4 in 7 career starts. While he could improve, on exposed form he would do well to place. |
