G1 – 2000m – Dirt
1 |
Saltarin Dubai |
Twice a winner over this course and distance, though in handicap company. He ran a close third here two starts back and his dismal show in a G2 last time was too bad to be true. |
2 |
Military Law |
His last two Meydan efforts give him a clear chance here. Ahead of today’s rival Saltarin Dubai when winning in December, he then ran an excellent second to top class Benbatl in a G2 here in February, finishing strongly. |
3 |
Matterhorn |
Competed 15 times last year, with his stunning victory over this distance in a valuable event at Lingfield in April showing how good he could be. He can build on an encouraging third in a Meydan G3 last month. |
4 |
Desert Fire |
The winner of a 1600m turf handicap here early in 2019 and some solid efforts in the UK followed including an all-weather win over this distance. One good, one modest effort at Meydan this year, now trying the dirt. |
5 |
Mark Of Approval |
Has been running consistently well in the UAE since last October, though at a notably lesser level than would probably be required to win this. Accelerated well from the rear to beat 10 rivals in a local Listed event at nearby Jebel Ali last month. |
6 |
Quip |
A dual G2 winner in the US though not proven over quite this far. He raced wider than his seven rivals in a G3 on his Meydan debut and could never really get involved but no surprise if trainer Doug Watson can bring plenty of improvement. |
7 |
Roman Rosso |
Won a G1 over this distance when trained in South America but didn’t thrive in the US. However after a break he did run encouragingly in a G2 here last month, ridden aggressively and running out of steam late on, fourth to top class Benbatl. However he was 10.25L behind today’s rival Military Law there. |
8 |
New Trails |
Beaten 11L when fourth in this last year and hard to say that he has improved much on that in any starts since. Beaten a long way by Benbatl in a G2 here last month with three of today’s rivals ahead of him. |
