The Licensing Committee has resolved to:
1. grant an extension of Club Jockey’s licence to Silvestre de Sousa for the period 1 March 2019 to 24 March 2019, both dates inclusive.
2. grant, subject to a satisfactory medical examination, a licence to ride in races in Hong Kong to Apprentice Jockey Alfred K H Chan for the period from 31 March 2019 until the conclusion of the current 2018/2019 racing season inclusive, provided that Apprentice Chan is not permitted to ride in any race at Happy Valley Racecourse until permission is granted by Management.
A release in relation to which Trainer Apprentice Chan will be allocated to will be issued at the appropriate time.
Apprentice Jockey’s Profile Alfred Chan Ka Hei
Alfred Chan commenced overseas training in New Zealand in April 2015 under the guidance of Christchurch based Trainer Mike McCann and later with Allan Sharrock in New Plymouth. Apprentice Chan was able to ride 49 winners from 469 race rides in New Zealand. Since relocating to South Australia in December 2017, initially with Morphettville based trainer Lloyd Kennewell and more recently under the guidance of Jon O’Connor, Apprentice Chan has ridden a further 51 wins from 603 race rides. Collectively, Apprentice Chan has recorded 100 race wins whilst riding overseas and has a winning strike rate of just under 10%. Apprentice Chan has advised that his minimum riding weight is 105 lbs.
