The Hong Kong Jockey Club purchased four colts for a total outlay of €930,000 at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale, held early last week (2 and 3 October) in County Kildare, Ireland.
Among the eye-catching quartet was an athletic Exceed And Excel colt with a Group 1 page, bought on day two for €360,000. The youngster, Lot 352, is out of the two-time mile winner Kitty Love, a half-sister to Europe’s Champion Stayer Order Of St George, as well as a pair of G3 scorers at around mile, Asperity and Angel Terrace.
The bay’s third dam is US Champion juvenile filly Storm Song, a two-time G1 scorer. The family has also produced Singapore’s champion mare Better Life and Japanese G2 winner Midsummer Fair.
Earlier in the auction’s second session, the Club went to €300,000 to secure a smart-looking Holy Roman Emperor colt, Lot 337. The bay is out of Icebreaking, third in the Italian 1,000 Guineas and a half-sister to the high-class Italian gallopers Kaspersky and Malagenia.
The hammer fell at €140,000 during the opening session for another bay, Lot 162. The Acclamation colt’s second dam, Favourable Terms, won the G1 Nassau Stakes at Goodwood.
Lot 199, a chestnut colt by Footstepsinthesand, is a half-brother to five winners; the family has produced the triple G1-winner Scorpion.
