G1 – 1993m – Turf

Cliffs Of Moher Has been called names because of his tendency to hang under pressure but a classy colt who was second in the 2017 Derby at Epsom and came from last to first to win a G2 over 2000m at Naas in May. Looks versatile groundwise.
Cracksman Arguably the best UK horse in training in 2018. Improved from a rating of 92 to 130 last year with a string of excellent performances, including a brilliant G1 victory over this course and distance. Not at his best at Epsom, but still narrowly won a 2405m G1 there last time.
Desert Encounter Won a fast-ground Listed race here last season, though over further. Ran a good third behind Poet’s Word in a G3 over a similar distance to this last time, not helped by the slow gallop. Hard to imagine him winning, but place prospects.
Eminent Hasn’t lived up to some of last season’s great expectations but an attacking front-running ride did see him easily win a Deauville G2 last August. Hot favourite for his 2018 return, running a shocker, but found to have a fibrillating heart. His trainer thinks that was a one-off.
Hawkbill A bitter disappointment when 25L fifth of six behind Cracksman at Epsom last time, but red-hot form at Meydan previously including a G1 victory – dominating for most of the way with Poet’s Word a well-held second. Down in distance but he won a G3 over this course and distance in 2016.
Poet’s Word Quickly became a successful handicapper and now a smart group race operator, including when easily best of the European raiders in the 2017 LONGINES Hong Kong Cup. Close up before pouncing in the straight when a Sandown G3 winner at this distance last time.
Royal Julius Two fine recent efforts, notably when winning a G2 (1800m) at Rome last month – leading 400m out under Gerald Mosse and winning quite easily. However this is a serious G1 and it will be a surprise if this French challenger is up to it.
