| 1 | Graffiti Master | An expensive well-bred colt he was progressive in three starts last season, winning a novices’ event over this trip on the all-weather and then finishing strongly into third against tougher opposition over this course and distance in Listed company. Slow ground best. |
| 2 | Highbrow | A slow developer according to his trainer, but he did nothing wrong in two 2017 starts, latterly responding well to pressure to win an all-weather 1600m Kempton minor event. He now moves onto turf and into this good Listed race, apparently the target for some time. |
| 3 | Key Victory | Imprisoned behind horses, he finished powerfully to win a 1400m novices’ event on fast ground here last October. His nearest victim then has won some good races since, and Key Victory is potentially very smart and from a family who have improved with age. |
| 4 | Lynwood Gold | Back to the track where he won an 1800m handicap on his final start of 2017. The fast conditions there were considered ideal so drying ground would help on this seasonal debut. And this longer distance is expected to favour him. |
| 5 | Old Persian | Twice a winner in 2017 including a novices’ event here in October. Back here for a good-ground handicap at this distance last month, and, giving weight to all his rivals, he delivered a strong late surge to win. Yet another talented three-year-old from this stable. |
| 6 | Petrus | A 1400m Sandown winner last July, and his last two starts were over 1600m on this track, running well in G2 and G3 company without quite having enough kick in the closing stages. He now returns after a 203 day absence. His pedigree suggests he should have the stamina for this. |
| 7 | Roland Rocks | Admittedly his pedigree does give hope for improvement over this longer trip but he still looks a very unlikely winner here, generally failing to shine in Meydan this year and also beaten a long way in a 1202m Listed event at Doncaster last time. |
| 8 | Stephensons Rocket | A scopey colt who showed promise on both starts last season, latterly when easily justifying odds-on favouritism – despite racing too freely – to win a novices’ event over 1600m at Redcar. |
