1st – Beauty Generation – Zac Purton
“Obviously the horses on the outside were in a bit of a rush to get across but, luckily, we were able to kick up underneath them and hold our spot. He’s just so honest, he goes out and runs the same race every time. When he gets the circumstances to suit him, you get to see how good he is.”
2nd – Western Express – Sam Clipperton
“Great run. It helped with the pace being a little bit generous early but then the winner was able to get a cheap sectional mid-race and I think that’s told the tale. Take nothing away from my horse, he deserves one of these big races; he just needs everything in his favour but it was another gallant effort.”
3rd – Southern Legend – Brett Prebble
“Super run. A little bit muddling early, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Once I found a position it slowed a bit more than I would have liked and I hit a bit of a flat patch, but he’s tough and courageous.”
4th – Beauty Only – Neil Callan
“It was a great run. You can’t expect him to quicken off ground like that, so with that in view it was a pretty courageous run.”
5th – Singapore Sling – Chad Schofield
“I tried to get some cover but I couldn’t. It was a slowly run race so being outside the leader was no negative and I thought he was very game up the straight. He got beaten two lengths. He’s going to come back next season a much better horse too.”
6th – Pingwu Spark – Derek Leung
“He ran just okay. We had a good position, we found cover and we followed the winner. The pace was a bit slow but I gave him every chance. Maybe he’s run one too many times this year but I think he’ll come back next year and he’ll be a better horse.”
7th – Seasons Bloom – Joao Moreira
“He was a little bit unlucky at the start, he jumped okay but the horses around him had him tight and took his runs, so he got a little too far back and it was just too hard to make up ground.”
8th – Blizzard – Karis Teetan
“The way the track is riding today we had to pressure him a little bit. I just think he was over-racing and couldn’t finish it off.”
