The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has confirmed the criteria under which Macau Jockey Club (MJC) horses may be permanently imported into Hong Kong for racing.

Horses can be qualified for import only if they satisfy the following conditions:

1.      Any horse which is four-years-old or younger and has had 17 career starts or less with an official MJC handicap rating of 60 or higher, OR

2.      Any horse which is four-years-old or younger and has had more than 17 career starts with an official MJC handicap rating of 73 or higher.

Permit Holders wishing to import eligible horses from the MJC are asked to confirm the eligibility and rating of the horse with the HKJC’s Racing Product Department.

Permit Holders must obtain written confirmation from the Racing Product Department that a horse is qualified for import in accordance with the Import Criteria set out above.

It is the sole responsibility of the Permit Holder to ensure that the horse satisfies the Import Criteria and all other requirements for import into Hong Kong.

The decision to approve the import of horses from Macau under specific conditions, is provided as a service to HKJC Permit Holders looking to source suitable PPs to race in Hong Kong and to provide an opportunity for suitable younger horses impacted by the closure of racing in Macau to continue their racing careers.

Horses can be imported only by HKJC Members exercising a valid import permit. Horses that meet the conditions set down for import will also be subject to requirements determined by the Department of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare and Biosecurity Policy.

The conditions for permanent import of horses from Macau to Hong Kong is three weeks Pre-Export quarantine in Macau followed by two weeks Post-Arrival Quarantine in Hong Kong.
